So in the last couple years, I've sensed a movement going on in music. I classify it Urban New Wave. The groups and their albums I cite as follows:

Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
Saul Williams - The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust
Meshell Ndegeocello - The World Has Made Me the Man Of My Dreams
KUDU - Death Of the Party
Erykah Badu - New Amerykah pt. 1 - 4th World War

Does anyone have artists they think should be included?

I don't hear that at all.

Esp not in the following artists;

Meshel's album is something on itself, I would not dare put a label on it, especially not new wave, especially not urban new wave. Urban World Music Dub, maybe. With some rap.

Nine Inch Nails never left the corner he's been into. New wave might be an early inspiration, but I'd classify him in a rock spectre with tendencies to moody behaviour. Dyed black hair does not a goth make. Or sumthing.

Erykah Bady is also pot-pouri, but new wave ain't her main thing. Her last album was more p-funk inspired than anything else.

I think the movement really is two different types of artists at this point, those that really care where they chart, and those that dont really care. Your either in the corporate mindset or not, thats not saying that everyone at a label "talks the label lingo", i mean john mellencamp has been through 3 labels in the last 5 years because he rally just needs a label for wider distribution and nothing else, kind of like Prince.

I think what he meant was that the music from the artists that he mentioned has evolved from their original sound. I would have to agree, especially when it comes to Ms. Badu. Her sound has really evolved into something totally different from the sound that she first came out with.

Yeah. Ms. Badu's sound has definitely changed from her debut. So has Michele's. Both of them have a less commercial sound. In a way, they have kinda of loss their sound, especially Ms. Badu.

This is the first time I see Erykah Badu and Nine Inch Nails being classified under the same genre definition, even if the definition itself would be completely made up by the person him / herself.
