Would you go to a concert just for the opening act??

I'm battling with this dilemma now! hmmm

I love Mint Condition, but I'm not a fan of Angie Stone at all...
She's the main act, they're opening

Should I buy a ticket? Would you go? Has this happened to you?
If you will, so will I

It has happened to me with local acts.. someone else gets top billin' but I want to see the act beforehand.

I'm betting you'll enjoy Angie Stone live

If I'd really wanted to see the opening act I'd go. Best thing to do is I'd go there with the thought of having a good time and just going with the flow of things. The thing is some artists can bring a surprise and being in a good mood from seeing the act you wanted to see you might enjoy the main act Stone alot more too.

I did that for Tony, Toni, Tone. When they opened up for Janet years ago...I stayed for them and left for Janet.

I have done it on a few occasions. Most recent seeing PCD when they opened for Christina Aguilera back in 06. Other artists i saw as the opening act, Extreme opening for some band that i cannot even remember back in the later 80's. The band Saraya i loved, they were always opening for someone i didnt want to see.

I just don't see Janet, the way others do.

yes. i've done it.

but take into consideration how long they might play and how much you're willing to spend to see their set. sometimes the opening act could be worth more the thicket price than the main act. if you like them enough, i say go for it! biggrin

With the price of concert tickets? Naw. I'd only go if I actually liked the main act.

Now, a local gig would be different, because they're a hell of a lot cheaper.

Depends on how much I liked the opening act and how much the tickets are. I'd see Prince for sure tho.

You're in a tough spot. I like angie stone and it helps she's from my
hometown. lol I can understand where you're coming from. Some artists
you're just not a fan of. The problem with this is with Mint being the opening
act and depending on the venue their playing you may only get to see the band
perform 1 hr to 1hr 15 minutes. Now if this were Mary J. Blige or Keith Sweat
they were opening for i definitely would not go. I would rather see Mint by themselves or as the headliner as i have a few times and watch the band perform 2 hrs or more.
Good luck with your decision.

Depends.

Mr Hudson & The Library are opening for Kanye West in the UK this month. I'd happily pay to see them and then probably mingle around for Kanye a bit and leave.

Nikka Costa opened for Britney Spears a few years back. And, um, Hell no. When I heard of that, I didn't even bother to get tickets. I'm sure as hell not trying to be in a Britney concert audience to see Nikka no matter how much I liked her album.

So, yeah, it depends.

queston: how long is the opening act?

When Tori was touring Choirgirl, she was opening for Alanis (I like her too, not as much as Tori). I'm sure, I'd been there.

Thanks for the advice guys! grouphug

Tickets are about $55 for decent seats (it's a mid-sized venue), so I just decided not to go...

It sucks to miss out on Mint Condition but hopefully they'll be back around this area soon...maybe touring clubs or something, and I can just see them then

If you will, so will I

wait, you're talking about the 5 1/2 weeks tour. that wasn't really opening, that was a co-headline show. they both played for about an hour and half.

ps - that was for "to venus and back" and not "choirgirl." tori didn't have an opening act for choirgirl (neither the promo, small club tour nor the arena tour).

it wasn't an opening thing it was a double billed tour.

Depends on the price of the ticket. I LOVE Mint Condition but when they came here in July it was with Maze. confused Plus good tix were more than $100. So I didn't go. But they came back alone and I saw them a few weeks ago and it was amazing. So, if the ticket price is reasonable their totally worth going to see even if you leave but IMO you might as well stay. twocents

the last time i remember doing this was when LCD soundsystem opened for arcade fire. i'm not a big AF fan, but i LOOOOVE LCD, especially live. fortunately, my bf loves arcade fire, so there was a reason to stick around after the opening act.

though this thread reminds me of when i went to see NIN opening for bowie waaaay back in the day. i was appalled when, at the end of NIN's set, droves of teenagers left the arena as bowie's set started. how the hell do you walk out of a david bowie concert???? freakin' whippersnappers. mad

If the opening act would be Madonna, George Michael, Michael Jackson, EWF, Prince, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder I'd certainly do it.
