Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack - "You Are My Heaven" (1980)

...

A classic, and one of Donny's Last....Donny and Roberta doing the tune written by Stevie Wonder....

According to Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder is also singing background vocals on this classic.

According to Mtume, "Back Together Again" was Donny Hathaway's last vocal performance.

Where is the Definitive collection for this genius who was recently named to Rolling Stone's greatest singers list! (49)

I forget the name of the girl who was singing near the end but she sounded wonderful, I know someone posted her name, lol.

Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn (I believe) sung background on "Back Together Again".

According to Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder flew her out to LA and played her 5 songs that he had written for this album.

btw my Top 5 are (in no particular order)

Tears Of A Clown
It's A Shame
Until You Come Back To Me
You Are My Heaven

and...

The Crown...

the last one is an odd choice... But I simply love to work out to it. It's such a positive song.

Yeah, Let's Get Serious is fonky...

Speaking of The Crown... I wonder how many know Stevie did a rap record... He did produce the instrumental (and completely ripped off Chic's Good Times) But I love the chorus...

Alex, I'm surprised It's A Shame is on your Top 5. Again this is a song I fear many don't know. But itg's soooo great and Cheesy Cameron's vocals are first class. In fact it's one of my favorite male vocal performances ever!!!

He wrote so many great records. Tell Me Something Good is great too. And I like the two christmas songs he wrote for Smokey...

It's good, but I wouldn't put it with his best.

"It's a Shame" isn't just in my top 5 -- it's #1! Love, love, love that song! I posted a thread about this very subject some months ago. Here's my top 10:

10. Cause We've Ended As Lovers - Syreeta
9. Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever - The Four Tops
8. Tell Me Something Good - Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
7. I Can't Help It - Michael Jackson
6. Come Back As a Flower - Syreeta (although technically credited to Stevie himself)
5. You Are My Heaven - Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway
4. Let's Get Serious - Jermaine Jackson
3. Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do) - Aretha Franklin
2. The Tears of a Clown - The Miracles
1. It's a Shame - The Spinners

For my list, I would add Minnie Riperton's "Perfect Angel", Rotary Connection's "This Town", Syreeta and GC Cameron's "I Wanna Be by Your Side", Jeff Beck and Syreeta's "Cause We've Ended As Lovers", and Jermaine Jackson's "You're Supposed To Keep Your Love For Me"....

Ya know what though? eek

I always thought it woulda been a KICK ASS version had it been sung by a falsetto.

But MJ wasn't on my mind @ the time, it was Emanuel "EJ" Johnson from Enchantment.

OMG love he would've murked this to death music the song is right up his alley, vocally. Its a shame they didn't work toghether.
