Why was Heal The World such a flop?

It didn't even make the top twenty in the US. Also many fans dispise the song. I love the song so much. I can EXACTLY remember the first time I heard it. It was on a Sunday afternoon when I and my parents came back home from a walk. I went into my room, played with my LEGOs and had some hot chocolate and suddenly that song was played on my mother's radio.
For me this song means my childhood, warmth and sorowless.

Beside that I think the song really has a great melody.

So, why was it such a flop? Why do you think most Dangerous songs flopped?

Most of the dangerous songs were HUGE hits and r&b staples. As for Heal The World, sure it might not have done as well as some of Michael's past hits for Dangerous, but that might have also been due to the fact that...the video probably wasn't as promoted because Michael really wasn't in it (as he shouldn't have been..the video had a strong message that tied into the song) - However, I find it hard to believe it "flopped" after his HUGE performance of it at the Superbowl.

Heal the World wasn't a flop. It was actually highly successful for a song of that type...

"Save the Children" by Marvin Gaye, didn't that much attention...

And yes, I feel warm and safe when I hear that song... I played it to go to sleep for years...

It was def a commercial disapointment, especially considering the fact her performed the song ons Super Bowl and as said it is such a beautiful song.

But commercially you hardly can compare MJ to Marvin. Artistically I think What's Going On is much better than Dangerous but we all know which one sold 30 mio.

Also I think the Dangerous songs weren't as big as Michael wanted them to be. He only had one #1.

Why became it so hard for him to become #1?

"Save the Children" was the b-side to a sixties single in England. It was never released in America. And it's a good song. At some point (near the end) you can groove to it, lol.

"Heal the World" is aight too tho. Just aight. lol

curioso

Some people are turned off by the mushy lyrics, especially the chorus and that it's sung by Michael Jackson.
The song is very good overall with an excellent melody.

I don't think it was a flop, but I do skip that track to listen to "dangerous" lol The "Dangerous" track is the perfect song to put on makeup or when you choosing outfits to wear when you getting ready to go out for a good time. nod The hottest song off that album is "Can't Let Her Get Away"...I can listen to that song today and not get enough of it nod
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It was a hit in the UK but in the USA, definitely not lol

The song was real cheesy mad

I'm a fan and it's one of my least favourite MJ songs, ugh. I don't say I hate it though, but still.

I like the melody of the verses but hate the chorus. It's a nice song but if I never heard it again, I'd be fine.

I gotta say, as an MJ fan too- I can't stand this song. It has no soul, unlike Man In The Mirror or even Earth Song- those songs have soul.

Heal The World sounds like it was so calculated to be that "message" song on Dangerous.

Because it was horrible? I think it is my least favourite single from "Dangerous". But it wasn't really a flop. Second biggest hit from that album in the UK (#2). Remember The Time and Give In To Me also made it to #2 but "Heal The World" lasted longer in that position if I remember it correctly. "Black Or White" made it to #1.

Speaking as an MJ fan, I loathe this song! I cannot understand how it ever made it onto an otherwise great album.

I love the song but I don't listen to it that much anymore and I agree it doesn't fit on Dangerous much though it's still sweet

I think it's still a popular song everyone knows, and I'm sure it did great outside the states. Don't people sing them at choirs and stuff?

What I never understood about the "Dangerous" album is why "Black Or White" was chosen as the first single when almost all the other singles (except "Heal The World" and "Gone Too Soon") are much better
