http://www.eurweb.com/sto...r48420.cfm Sony Pictures Classics has picked up North American rights to the R&B star-studded rockumentary "Soul Power," which features performances from James Brown, B.B. King, Bill Withers and others at the historic "Zaire '74" concert in Africa. The 12-hour, three-night long event was held alongside the legendary "Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, a bout detailed in the Oscar-winning documentary "When We Were Kings." Sony Classics also picked up Latin American rights to "Soul Power," which premiered this fall at the Toronto International Film Festival, reports the Hollywood Reporter. Hopefully in time to be a stocking stuffer.
I've been waiting for them to release some of this concert for years. This will be a great box set, 12 hours of footage. Every since I saw the doc.film "When We Where Kings" I've been eager to see the entire footage. I have the audio of the JB set, Live In Zaire. Lets see, The Pointer Sisters, The Spinners (with the Big Cat Philippé Wynne),Sister Sledge, Celia Cruz, Hugh Masekela, Etta James, Miriam Makeba, The Crusaders are some of the others I remember seeing in the doc.film or reading and hearing about. Hurry up and release this puppy. [Edited 11/6/08 15:09pm] | |
