Esther Phillips, Anybody?

I love this lady for the simple fact that she re-invented herself in every era she lived in,,,,she really has an intersting discography.

But like somebody else said, she was a lil' bit TOO versatile for her own good, sadly.

These are songs from different times of her life....

I like her Gil Scott-Heron cover of "Home Is Were The Hatred Is", on the 'From A Whisper To A Scream' LP.

my mother had this album when i was a little girl! she played it all the time, along with sarah vaughn's 'a day in the life' album (i think that's what it was called). to my small ears i couldn't always tell them apart, but my brother loved sarah's 'sweet gingerbread man'. i can hear 'home' playing in my head right now!

Sounds like what Tina Turner could've sang @ the time. She would always do those type of blues songs.

nod I agree with you and Harlepolis both. From A Whisper To A Scream is a great LP. She most definitely shined while @ CTI. The CTI recordings are like gold.
