~ Faith Evans Appreciation Thread ~ As many times as it has been established already,,,let it be known AGAIN.....
Her voice gets me & Even though her materials don't always do her justice,,,she ALWAYS manages to put an intersting twist to the bland shit producers throw on her way. Sometimes however, she gets the chance to finally sing GOOD material and the result is always FIREWORKS what I moslty love about her singing is her subtle manner,,,,,she can wail with the BIG boys, but will ease her way through it and then drop it on you OLD SCHOOL when you didn't expect it coming instead. Alot of "vocalists"(not singers) of today's generation lack that confidence IMO,,,they feel like they have to show it off upfront, as opposed to let you figure it all out. I'll say this, that book of hers EXPOSED alot of wounds(behind her music) and fiery spirit behind the mystique & mellow personality she comes across with,,,,,I've always knew her calm attitude was just another defence mechanism. But I never knew she went through THIS amount of bullshit, I'm glad she's at peace with her past and secure enough to tell what alot of people in her situation would've not. That showed maturity. I just heard a duet she made with Nat King Cole(from an upcoming Christmas album) it was yet another testimony why her talent stood out among her peers, talent wise,,,,,at least IMHO. Does the Org appreciate, Ms.Faye? I Wonder?? [Edited 11/2/08 1:36am]

good voice. I'm not that much into popular RnB, Faith does stand out.....
That said, I am not much into 'big' women, but I find Faith to be incredibly hawt!!!

She's not but hell, she might as well be a Clark since she studied them to a TEE. And who could 4get this heartfelt tribute to Auntie Patti... I don't think she's big, though a lil' plump around the waist maybe,,,,but not big. And yes, she's absolutely gorgeous

oh oops.. I thought I saw somewhere that she's a cousin or something to the Clark sisters.. and yes she's georgous

I'm sorry guys...But, like the rest of today's R&B singers she does nothing for me. Maybe age has something to do with it, but give me some Donna, some Freda...Their voices had and still have body and substance and so did their material. Vocally she could floor them in a single breath, substance as well as body. I agree with you about the materials though,,,,but she shines in the few moments here and there. I personally, would've never given her the time of day had she lacked the depth in her voice.

Also, if today's artist want to be taken seriously, then sing something of substance with a REAL band, instead of a 70's sample. Out of all of Faith's material, the only thing that I can stomach,(and not for long), is "As soon as I get home". Nice song....But, it is just that...Nice "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Nice song....But, it is just that...Nice I think the comparision is unfair to begin with. You have to understand, those ladies are from a different era. Had Faye been in an era where she could compete with the sound aspects as opposed to the visual aspects,,,,she, Syleena, Kelly, Blu and all these ladies would've been household names. I really think she got the crap of the deal since she gets generalized with the REST of this generation's singers,,,,,when IMO, you can sense that she really got something if one could sit and listen to the stuff she did(ok, minus the samples ). If Minnie emerged in this day and age, she would've settled with what are these "vocalists" of the day are settling with. Bland boring lifeless lounge-like supposedly neo-soul music. As for Donna, nothing against her or anything, but I think her materials carried her and not vice versa. We can't really dismiss artists because they're young/born in this time/and etc,,,,,some REALLY got depth, but as I implied, they're the victims of this time where talent holds NO value whatsoever next to image. [Edited 11/2/08 7:13am] Okay. Well, if you compared her to today's singers. Mary J.,(as much as I hate to say it), can out sing Faith. There is also, Monica and let's not forget Kelly Price. They all have those rich full bodied voices, which faith in my opinion does not have. The others may use sampled music as well, but the fact that their have fuller voices compensate for it. Debatable While I think that Ms.Price can FLOOR all of them in a bunch,,,,I think that Faye got more range than Monica and Mary(even though I like Mary J more). Monica's is weak btw, once you heard her, you heard the rest. There's nothing new to be brought to the table, totally bland. The only things I enjoyed from her are her 1st 2 albums,,,,,before she went "Ride Or Die gangstress" on us Kelly though *whew!* thats another story,,,,,I mean this dame made Chaka FLINCH when she joined her on stage

This was a few years ago. I forgot what song it was that she sang, but I was like....WHOA!! I am not taking anything away from faith. She has written some really nice jams, "U Used to love me", being one of them. The only time that someone has really made her sound good to, and this is just my opinion; was when BabyFace wrote "Kissin' You" for her on the "Waiting to Exhale", soundtrack. But then again, Face made EVERYBODY sound good on that soundtrack, cause he wrote songs that were within their range. I think these songs showcase Faye's talent... http://www.youtube.com/wa...Q-WdrlpekA minutes the corny speaking part. And oh since we're speaking about gospel... I love the Billie Holiday hint in Love Can't Hide's bridge and then she switch it up after that. [Edited 11/2/08 8:12am]

Again, her voice is to "breathy" for me. I like to hear more "meat and potatoes". "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I Love Faye...I agree her Harlepolis her material does her a great injustice. As far as the Mary J. comparison I love MJB too and even though her voice has gotten a little better over the years I don't think she can vocally hold a candle to Faye. I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back. I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there. I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish. And I am

She just neds to do a whole album with live instrumentation that really gives her the flow to expres her vocals. The First Lady was a very good album and possiblly her best. I hope she keeps in that direction or work with james Poyser in the future.
I saw her on tour with Usher and i was SHe blew the house down especially on Burnin Up. [Edited 11/5/08 10:35am] Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Beautiful, beautiful voice is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Faith. I've been a fan since she dropped her first lp and I've never looked back.
