Better than Marvin's or as good as Marvin's?

He's one of only a handful of male vocalists to rival Marvin, BUT.... nobody will top (nor equal) Marvin's version of "What's Going On".

Not better as Marvin, he comes close though which is impressive. Donny was the kinda guy to hear a song and perform it two to three weeks later himself LIVE, now that's some talent.

motownlover

i dare to say better. if you compare it to marvin live . ( also depends when in time) later years marvin couldnt reach this level imo. i just like the instrumentation and voice of donny. a little bit over marvins live versions.

no offence marvin is great and the originator but donny was incredible as well. like choosing between 99 dollar 95 cents or 100 dollar.

like i said there both great and its like comparing great to great. and i hate to compare them as well. both where incredible artists

Neither. I love Donny, but I've never really liked this cover at all. It doesn't hold a candle to Marvin. I don't like the increased tempo, the different rhythm of the lyrics, the lack of the sax parts... The original is a perfect recording; this is not.
