My favorite Nina Simone song This song is very depressing, but yet so beautiful.

Wow! Nice tune. Nina was just so,so great.
For many years I was a reggae afficiando and somewhere in my collection is a tune that absolutely stole this composition note for note (but syncopated with more of a reggae lilt). I wish I could remember the name of the song and artist. I never knew the song was a ripoff before hearing this Nina youtube. (I suppose there's a chance that Nina copped it from the Jamaicans). This is gonna be bugging me all day trying to recall that song and fish it out. EDIT: OK. I remembered. It is the same song as recorded by The Tamlins which stayed at #1 for 12 weeks on the Jamaican charts in 1980 and was awarded Song of the Year. That's an amazing feat for Jamaica where at the time literally hundreds of singles were released every month in a tiny, tinymarket. A little searching has uncovered that Baltimore is neither a Nina tune nor a Tamlins tune but is actually a Randy Newman song originally released in 1977 on his Little Criminals album. Here's a page that will tell you more than you will ever need to know about the history of this song and who has covered it: Enjoy! http://www.kalamu.com/bol...%E2%80%9D/ [Edited 11/3/08 10:38am]

for years it was "Feelin' Good"... now it's a tie between that one, "Sinnerman", "See Line Woman", "Chauffeur", "Ain't No Use" & "Do I Move You"...
I got hooked on Nina WAY late so I'm still really smitten w/ a lot of her songs, I can't just list one I also have a strong affinity for the following: Buck (somebody here turned me onto that one) Be My Husband In the Dark Chilly Winds Don't Blow Be My Husband I Loves You, Porgy Trouble In Mind Mississippi Goddamn Nobody's Fault But Mine Four Women Here Comes the Sun & her versions of The Pusher, Since I Fell For You & Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood... & the remixes from Verve - Feelin' Good & Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair have been done, both are nice...
