Laurie Anderson - Homeland

After years of missing out, I finally made it to a Laurie Anderson show. clapping Anyone else see this?

It was more mellow than I expected, and soothing. I love the electric violin.

The day after the concert, she gave an on onstage interview for 1.5 hours. I sat in the second row, so got a good look at her. smile Wow, intelligent! And interesting!

If you've seen this show, did you like it?

Anxiety

i saw her in chicago earlier this year and i thought it was a great show. i tend to like her more as a performer than as a musician, so i was a little "iffy" at first when i realized it would be laurie crammed behind her keyboards for the whole show. i got over it fast, though. i really enjoyed all the new music from "homeland" and didn't mind that we were hearing all new music and none of her past classics. "homeland" is great! i think it's her strongest work since "bright red" and i can't wait to hear the studio versions of all the songs i heard her perform.

i am very envious that you got to sit in on a Q&A with laurie. i love listening to her talk. she's always very witty and insightful, and i just love the sound of her speaking voice in general.

Cool! The show wasn't quite what I expected, but I was pretty open to anything. I liked the construct that the show was one continuous piece of music, no intermission.

I have the CD "The Ugly One with the Jewels" and after the show, I understood the CD much better, as well as the show!

But yeah, the interview was amazing. Very intimate. She seemed genuinely interested in everything everybody said. She talked a lot about her other work. Especially an installation piece done in Milan, which put a full body cast of a prisoner on the altar of a church. Then she projected his live-feed video image onto it from the prison for six hours a day. smile

Evidently, this prisoner escaped three weeks ago. She said, "Yeah, it's not so great when everybody is free." She came out with a lot of good one-liners like that.
