Reporting for duty! biggrin

I had to immerse myself in this mix as this is probably the most foreign of all the mixes to me. nod Like Lammy, this is probably the vibe I would seek out the least. That said, and MagSyn can attest to this, I do have stuff like Profuse, Fishbone, Living Color (Yohimbe Brothers), Remix comps like New School Vs Old School and other comps but this is not a vibe I go to very often. I mostly enjoy it in mixes and comps of my own rather than a strict matter of listening pleasure. It's sort of a treat for me, rather than meat and potatoes stock. Am I confusing you? lol

Love's a Real Thing - Super Eagles

Ok, this reminds us of our (US) cultural impact on the world in a positive way. clapping When was this recorded and where in Africa are they from?

Push Push - Lloyd and Devon

This reminds me of old groups like War or Santana. That good ole fashioned slow groove. nod Love this clapping

Guns of Brixton - The Clash

I have said in other mixes I am not a fan of reggae. HATE IT quite frankly lol But I'm so not off on this mix so far. Some might see this as watered down but I see it as flavored wink

We Don't Need Who You Think You Are - Skunk Anansie

FLIPPED. OUT exclaim This is a killer track clapping I have ALWAYS wondered about this dude. Saw him in the stores a million times but never got around to checking him out. LOVE his voice. LOVE! love I'm always amazed at someone who can keep their vocal composure during such standout musical moments. I want to check out more of this dude biggrin nod

PS - I have come to obsess on this song. I actually hum and sing that chorus when I'm out and about lol

She's Calling You - Bad Brains

this maintains the "edge" that the last song introduced but I'm non plussed by it really. This has actually grown on me with multiple listens but I still can't find any connection with it.

Sloganeer(Live Version) - Meshelle Ndegeocello

HELL-THE-FUCK-O! clapping

There cannot be sufficient amount of praise for the expansion of Me'Shell's work into this punk phase clapping I was at the very first show where she showcased the material from Man of My Dreams! biggrin I had heard that she was going in this direction but didn't know what to expect and the whole night the audience is like this

eek
omg
omfg
shocked
eyepop

There was this girl in front of me that kept saying what in wonder, amazement and awe as Me'Shell unfurled the genius of this material on us clapping I feel bad that some of my best friends here have had mixed or negative reactions to these shows. She has always been on point when I saw her. I'm not having that experience and I feel bad that they did but this is a great example of her being ON. clapping

Wolf Like Me - TV on the Radio

Whereas I wasn't feeling the handoff from skunk to brains, I LOVE this transition! biggrin LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this clapping I want whatever album this came off of nod

The End Complete II: Radio Bye Bye - Coheed and Cambria

eek Hmmmm….. I have seen this name before but I don't know what I thought they were. I thought like electronica lol The guys voice reminds me of Rush nod Very wicked witch like lol

Rhododendron - Bloc Party

I would love to review this but for some reason it has disappeared from your mix on 8 track! mad

wink
wink
wink
wink

That's the clue, not some cheeky response to the disappearance of Bloc Party from your mix. It really has disappeared lol

Skunk's track is my favorite in this mix clapping I'm glad I gave this multiple listens cuz I had to chew first before swallowing lol Like I said this isn't "go to" for me but rather mood music. This is a very well blended mix and I'm glad you finally showed up from the dead to participate! lol What was unfamiliar and somewhat confusing for me has become a very nice treat. Thanks for cookin it up hug

PS - Is that you in the 8 tracks mix? If so I had no idea you were a musician! I quite enjoy seeing the selections of actual musicians. smile

I like the flow of this mix! It starts out very ethnic and slowly progresses to modern rock by the end. And it's heavy on the brothas which is cool too. I'll post a song by song review soon.

Here you have me wondering if you are yanking our chain or not. You are kidding right? RIGHT?!?

You were up and about mid nineties, so you must have heard about this band then and there. Right? You got me seriously confused right now! lol

Unkempt!

First off, I'm happy you were back just in time to keep this thing rolling!
Second, thanks for giving us another shade of the musical spectrum. I cannot name another mixtape in this project that is anything similar to yours.

Love's a Real Thing - Super Eagles
Push Push - Lloyd and Devon

These first two songs are amazing. I must admit, I detested reggae as a teen growing up. Also hated those cheap powpow sound effects that second class dj's use. lol And still I LOVE 'push push' with a passion that is unrivaled!

Are the super Eagles really from Africa. What country?

Guns of Brixton - The Clash

Obvious? I don't know much about the clash. They're not much in my line of genre's, so I didn't know this track or that they used reggae more often. I love the fact that it's a roughed up reggae. Great song. I'm still wondering what song I know that bassline from. I guess it's a clash original. The song I know it from is probably some hiphop/r'n'b song. Mid to early nineties?

We Don't Need Who You Think You Are - Skunk Anansie

I want to thank you for including this and am happy it's gets some good press in this thread. Actually I'm kinda surprised by that! Skunk, pfew, brings back a lot of memories. A lot! Haven't played this in about a few hundred years...

She's Calling You - Bad Brains

Haha! Black rock. Can I call it that? Sounds very Jesse Johnson, Living Colour to me. I can see what side of Prince got you interested in the little fellow! Hearing this, I'm amazed you haven't mentioned or put Keziah Jones or Fishbone in your mix.

Sloganeer(Live Version) - Meshelle Ndegeocello

Oh my Me'shell. She. Her... She is so, I.. Really lost for words on her. Maybe in a year I can appreciate this. Or SIX!

Wolf Like Me - TV on the Radio

" I'll teach you tricks that will blow your mongrel mind" lol

Thank you for this. TV is a band that I've been meaning to check out. Thanks for playing this track here. I don't think this band is for me, but I do have a better understanding for them now. And they have my respect too.

The End Complete II: Radio Bye Bye - Coheed and Cambria

Emo? Heavy? Not so sure on that. Quite poppy indeed. Sounds a bit black rock to me. Not so fond of this. Quite okay, energetic, melodic.

I'm really wondering why you started it off as a reggae party. It takes off in another direction after the first three songs. Abruptly! Anyway, I liked both sides of the mix!

Thanks for the fun, exciting and edgy music!

ps. That is you on that Les Paul isn't it? biggrin

Love's a Real Thing - Super Eagles - I like the basement feel of this song--like it should be playing at someone's party in their cramped cellar packed with people dancing back in the late 60s/early 70s. Looking up the song I see it is indeed from 1972. Very cool.

Push Push - Lloyd and Devon - I can imagine Sly and Robbie making this song for Grace Jones. Nice mellow dub groove throughout the whole thing.

Guns of Brixton - The Clash - Smooth transition to The Clash from the previous song. Nothing to add really here. It's The Clash. Guns of Brixton. 'Nuff said.

We Don't Need Who You Think You Are - Skunk Anansie - Here's a band I should have been into, but never got around to exploring them. I've only ever read good things about them and this song backs up all that praise. Awesome vocals by lead singer Skin.

She's Calling You - Bad Brains - I can't believe I had I Against I and sold it one day in a clear case of temporary insanity. I have to get that album back.

Sloganeer(Live Version) - Me'Shell Ndegeocello - I have Me'Shell's last album with the studio version of this track, but hearing the more raw and energized live version is nice. Great percussion and drum breakdowns.

Wolf Like Me - TV on the Radio - Another good song from an album I used to have but sold. I like the first single "Golden Age" from TV On The Radio's new album so maybe I was too hasty in selling this LP too. One thing that has become obvious by this track is that the quality of the mp3s on this mix is terrible! You need to find a new way of ripping tracks from your CDs. lol

The End Complete II: Radio Bye Bye - Coheed and Cambria - I always thought of C&C as a progressive hard rock band with their complex arrangements and extended song lengths and esoteric titles. This track has a pretty good accessible groove, but I can hear some intricate ideas just below the surface.

Rhododendron - Bloc Party - I like your reasoning for including this song and it's interesting lyrically, but musically, a little dull. I can see why it's a b-side.

Other than mp3 quality, this mix was very, very good! I think my favorite is Skunk Anansie.
