Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...2003 White Wash? I think Ann Coulter picked all the people that made the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Anyone else a little bit weirded out by the fact that Prince didn't make it and this was the first year that he was eligible. I think what is more disheartening than even that is the fact that all of the acts (from what I've seen printed) are all very white! Not that there is anything wrong with that, but geez. Then again, most aren't from America either. Here is the list of the major (I stress major) artists to be inducted this year.
AC/DC The Clash Elvis Costello (and the Attractions?) The Police The Righteous Brothers The Righteous Brothers? Good night ladies and gentlemen! Maybe I'm just over reacting but this seems werid. I wonder what others reaction is.

It's about time Costello was given his dues.

But Prince isn't due to be eligible until 2004. There are actually several posts that prove that to be true.

There has been about 20 threads started on this topic and PRINCE CANNOT BE INDUCTED UNTIL 2004, because "For You" missed the deadline by like a month.

Yes, thank you. Prince isn't eligible until 2004...for the 20th time.

Donna Summer has been eligible for years. I know that she is not everyone's cup of tea but without Donna, there would be no Madonna. She was the first credible female pop artists. She co-wrote nearly all of her songs and has an amazing voice. Also, what about other disco acts like Chic? The only way disco gets its due is from white acts like the Bee Gees. Shame!

Look through this list and tell me there aren't just as many white acts who haven't made it. http://www.freevote.com/booth/rockhall Where is Queen? They were inovators and really ahead of their time and still loved today. For the love of God the Moody Blues aren't in. Jackson Browne, Chicago, Grand Funk Railroad. I mean are you not surprised that Neil Diamond isn'tin? He's sold like 100,000,000 albums. This should tell you that it's not a black white issue it's just an issue that the rock and roll hall of fame is kind of retarded. . Queen already made the hall of fame in 2000, I believe. That list must be wrong. I remember, because when they were inducted, the remaining members performed "Tie Your Mother Down" with Dave Grohl on lead guitar and vocals. It was excellent! I believe Steely Dan got inducted that year as well.

Although there is an obvious omission of Black recording artists being inducted this year, I can't honestly say I think the reason is racial, simply because there are a ton of Black artists already inducted in every category. There are MANY credible Black and White recording artists that are not in who are eligible. The Rock Hall is politicized just like any awards organization such as the Grammys or anything else where there has to be votes to count.
Someone said Donna Summer was the first credible female pop artist, maybe you're too young to realize that statement isn't true at all. Something you guys should realize: they're now picking recording artists of the era of the late '70s (1977 at the latest to be exact), and we all know that was the era that disco flourished with abandon, to the point of even White rock groups recorded disco songs. With the exception of very few recording artists disco has never been taken seriously by people who run the Rock Hall. Be the artists Black or White. It's just not a genre that generated any type of respect with music critics and music journalists, and there are many of both on the Hall's voting comittee. Chic was VERY respected by critics, though it seems they'll have to wait a bit longer too. Although there are Black and White groups eligible who I think should be in in other genres, there are many White disco groups who weren't nominated either. What jumps out at me, unfortunately, is that it seems that the Rock Hall is there for mainly cross-over Black artists (unless that Black artist was deemed an "early influence" by them). Because the '70s was the time of great Funk groups, and there should already be plenty of them in. PFunk is there, but they're not the one and only Funk group. What would all the Hip Hoppers do if they couldn't sample all that great Funk music of the '70s? Most wouldn't be in the music business, that's for sure. Ps, I'm surprised The Righteous Bros. weren't in already. blah, blah, blah... [This message was edited Sun Nov 24 13:22:06 PST 2002 by Supernova] This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

EWF in 2000 along with Eric Clapton.Steely Dan went in the same year as Michael Jackson did as a Solo Artist in 2001.because I Remember Paul Shauffers annoying Ass trying too direct how Donald Fagen was playing.truly sad.Queen is in.but there are double standards within the Business at who gets in&who doesn't IMHO.but Black Artists have too usually be twice as Good or have a Major Impact too getting in.mistermaxxx

I agree with you about Donna Summer. She has always been one of my favorite singers, and she did many groundbreaking recordings in the 70s.Her 1977 song "I Feel Love" practically STARTED the whole techno movement, and it was unlike anything else on the radio at the time.Similarly, she recorded the only listenable version of "MacArthur Park",and on the 'Bad Girls' album, she successfully mixed rock with Disco. Also, whereas most Disco artists faded away after 1979,Donna survived into the 80s and beyond with many other great songs and albums.I can't understand why the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame would overlook all her accomplishments.

That's right,Donna recorded FOUR double albums back to back, with three of them going multi-platinum...
"Once Upon A Time"(1977) "Live And More"(1978) "Bad Girls"(1979) "On The Radio"(1979) She was, unquestionably, the biggest female artist of the late 70s.
