Way off topic

A bit. But should we be chastized for that? This is not the Politics & Religion forum, it is a celebrity thread in Music. While the topic is about a member of the Debarge family and their drug and jail issues, the conversation turned to how or why the way they dress could or could not be an indication of sexual tendencies. The sexual tendencies and drug addiction and jail problems being in direct relation to the Debarge's rather tragic childhood issues. I think most here have expressed their sadness, disappointment, and hope for El Debarge's recovery. I don't understand what more you are looking for in our responses. This is not a wake. El is not dead. He is the victim toxic formmative years, yes. He is a great talent, who apparently has so much inner turmoil that he is currently not capable of making good decisions for himself. Therefore, he is now in jail and hopefully get the rehabiltation and treatment he needs in a controlled environment. As a fan of his family's music, naturally I hope with all my heart that he and the others will be able to heal from whatever it is that tortures them so and eventually lead productive lives in abundant creativity. But again, he is not dead, he still has a chance to rebuild and reclaim his life after this. Therefore please excuse some of us if we don't exactly choose to approach the thread as if it is a cyberspace version of a candlelight vigil. Celebrity topics always veer off course a little here. It doesn't mean that people are disrepecting or not focusing on the topic at hand.

Chico's CD comes out in february on Kedars new label, it's called "addiction" and features El on some tracks i believe

A gossip columnist was on Tom Joyner's show yesterday and said that Chico told him that during the time he was dating Nona Gaye in 2003, he was stabbed, which caused his addiction to pain medicine.

It's a Rhodes Piano, a electric piano brand. Named after the inventor Harold Rhodes. Very famous, you hear the rhodes sound in a lot of records over the years. A lot of keyboards and synths specifically have done a great job with s imulating the sound of a Rhodes (also known as fender rhodes) in example the yamaha motif xs synths. or yamaha keyboards.

He is so talented and he has so much to offer. Who knew he would turn out to be the most troubled Debarge behind Bobby? Please, El get it together!

Even if he wasn't a talented musician, he's still a man who's fucked up his life. It's even sadder what he's doing to not only his life, but his children's lives as well. People always get caught up in "Oh he's so talented..." Talent, unfortunately, does not keep R. Kelly, El and MJ out of trouble.

Just think, he'll probably get out before that time. Besides, I think he is one of the few DeBarge boys that hasn't spent any "real" time in jail.

Anyway, maybe he will clean himself up, do Dancing With the Stars, then get a career again.

disbelief I can't believe some of ya'll are going on like this about an almost 50 year-old crackhead like it's the end of the world. El had many chances and opportunies, moreso than the average crackhead, to get clean and change his life. He chose not to, PLUS chose to repeatedly break the law, and is now reaping the results of his choices. So, I'm sorry but I don't get all this lament and pity being thrown his way, when this dude is a grown ass muthafucka that wouldn't learn. shrug

I doubt El will get out early. He also doesn't seem to have the mental or emotional fortitude to deal with jail. I think he may be way more sensitive than Chico and not as strong.
On the plus side, he might write some damn good music while in there.

All things considered, I think most of the Debarges have aged well.
SNDLS, I get your point, but we all have soft spots and I have one for EL. It is a real shame because unlike a lot of singers these days, he has TALENT, the likes of which I don't think we will see again for a while. Bruthaman can sing. It is awful beyond words that his life has turned out this way and while I realize he fucked it up, it is still sad.

Exactly. Brother probably had like 20 chances to get it together and he chose to go down the self-destructive path. I can't blame his parents or Motown on this. At the end of the day, you make your own decisions. That's why there's too many musicians and celebrities who lead self-destructive lives only to die a tragedy. Eldra doesn't need to make a musical comeback, he needs some damn therapy and get away from everything, otherwise he's gonna end up like Bobby. Oh well.
