Why should I be concerned about a so-called "train wreck" that was going to happen. Deep down inside, she knows that she has a problem. But, whatever her reasoning is, she chooses to do nothing about it. Maybe it is fear that if she goes to the doctor about it, he might find out that there is an even bigger problem. She has to deal with it and does not need anybody to blame for it but herself. Like I said before, if you know that you have a problem and choose to do nothing about it, then you have NO right to complain when people start to talk about it.
.. cold blooded lol .. folks did this same thing with Britney.. was cold (thank goodness Britney recovered).. and yeah, although I have laughed @ a few Aretha jokes I am still concerned for her health and wish her well... It's not that I don't wish her well, I do. But, we can send her all the best wishes that we want. It still does not change the fact that she needs to help herself. All jokes aside,I really hope Aretha realizes that this is a serious problem and seeks help for it.She should have gastro-bypass surgery (or whatever it's called)....it would help her lose ALOT of weight. We've already lost too many of our R&B legends.I don't want Aretha to be next. [Edited 10/25/08 18:06pm] Yeah but why resort to surgery when she could just lose it the natural way? Shucks if Beyonce and Janet can keep packing on pounds for movie roles and then lose it all within two weeks for new album promotions and tours, then why can Aretha do it that way too? And let's look at her age, she is well into her 60's right? I don't think the gastro bypass surgery would be good for her since she's older. I'm not knocking gastro bypass....but I just think that it should only be considered in extreme circumstances. I prefer natural weight loss opposed to surgery, but to each is own. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I mean, she's always been a big woman, which is fine--big is when it comes to some delicious junk in the trunk--but lawd, 'ol girl is gonna need a fat cart to drag her ass to the local fat burger now. I don't recall her being quite THIS big?!?!? It's strange how some rock & roll icons age nicely (Tina Turner is still as fine as she ever was) and some go south like this (Madonna looks like a demonic barbie doll with a slight tranny look). How ironic that Tom Joyner has lost lots of weight with the help of his fitness guru wife who's also in the photo. A picture is worth a thousand words.

I hear what you're saying and yes,it would be great if Aretha could lose the weight the natural way but I honestly don't believe she can. It's obvious that she's not willing to give up the food that she enjoys.A gastro-bypass operation would limit the amount of food she could eat.It basically FORCES a person to eat less.Did you see how good Star Jones looks since she had that surgery? I have such a hard time with my own mom trying to gently nudge her into making better choices for herself physically. It is sooooo frustrating when they are completely set in their ways:-x

A big head with a small body isn't attractive to me, neither is the small turkey neck look. And some people become unevenly proportioned after the surgery, like a lady at my church had it done, and she lost probably 200 pounds, but her legs are still fat yet her upper body is that of a skinny person. Its weird looking. But I just hope Aretha gets the help she needs. I mean I know thats the goal everybody hopes for her. I agree, Star Jones looks bad and she's constantly dissed for the way she looks now. Since they lose weight as such a fast rate, most of the people that have that surgery have a gaunt look.

Patti LaBelle is notorious for being a fantastic cook, but if you see the recipes from her first cookbook, good lawd! Everything full fat, fried, covered in sugar...dont get me wrong, that s... TASTES GOOD. Her potato salad and macaroni and cheese will make you slap somebody! .But in the last years she developed Type 2 Diabetes and she literally had to go and teach herself how to change the way she cooks and eats so she could LIVE. So she went back and revamped all her soul food recipes into dishes that are simply better for the body...no more potato salad drowning in 2 jars of mayonaise .I had her newer cookbook of lighter recipes but like a dummy I gave it away
