I guess what I'm getting at is that this doesn't appear to be a gradual increase in her weight. She wasn't this fat 10 years ago. It seems that she just balooned from out of nowhere.
In the 80's she was curvaceous--I don't think she's every been thin. But she looked good.
Now, she looks like ...well, a leg of lamb.

Yeah she was actually thick in the right places in the '80s and early '90s. By the time she reemerged around '92, '93, '94, that's when she started ballooning. sad

Actually, I just saw the clip of Aretha performing Mariah Carry's song.
It appears she may actually be shrinking again?
Good for her.

Reports have said that she does get trained by her.

I dunno, Donna (Tom's wife and a personal trainer) lives here in Dallas so I don't know how effective she can be as Aretha's trainer when she lives in Detroit. shrug

What a bunch of old women you are. If Aretha was slim, then you guys would hardly ever mention her. It seems being grossly fat has actually made her more relevant to you.

I thought that she was? I read some time ago that she was on some kind of plan.

well if she is, it obviously is NOT working. how many famous people know personal trainers and personal chefs? so she really doesn't have an excuse for not losing at least 25% of her fatness by now.

I mean look at comedienne Monique. She wasn't that far from Aretha's size, but even she has lost some of her weight. Surely Aretha could do the same.

Madonna is the most famous and visible woman in the world so of course she's discussed. If Aretha was slim, we wouldn't be seeing five and six page threads about her every two minutes. That's a fact, not an opinion.

Interesting. Weren't you the one who was moaning and crying when Madonna was being criticised for her looks? You tried to claim the moral high ground, but the truth was you just couldn't bare your idol being criticised. Nice to see you've shown your true colours. wink

By the way, I'm not defending Aretha. I just think it's a shame a musical legend only becomes worthy of discussion round here when you guys want a laugh. That's the org for you, I guess.

Her talent has nothing to do with her health. The woman has let herself and her health go and that, is NO laughing matter. She obviously thinks that there is nothing wrong, and "my fans are going to love me, because I am a legend". But, how long is that brand of logic going to hold up?

This is very true. The thing is, if she keeps this weight on, we might not have our legend for very much longer, which would be terribly sad. sad

Horse shit. I've often started threads about artists I respect (Dylan, Tom Waits, Cyndi, etc.) and they always die a death. lol And when have I ever played for laughs?

Sure, you occasionally start threads about Cyndi and Bob but you're more often to be found shitting all over threads about Madonna, MJ etc... insulting their fans and taking the piss out of what they like.
No-one around here will deny that but you.

Firstly, the only reason I don't make more threads on people I like is because they never lead to any discussions. The Cyndi threads actually get more of a response than the Bob threads. eek

But mostly, you're MISSING THE POINT! The point is Aretha would not be discussed much here AT ALL if not for her weight. That shows the superficiality of this site. The truth is my posts on MJ and the like usually have a lot more substance than the blander posts of people like yourself.

If you think "I'm right and you're wrong, deluded and stupid" (which is the general gist of the majority of your posts) qualifies as 'substance', then please feel free to amaze us with more wonderful insights. I can't wait.

First, just because some are doing it, does not mean that ALL are doing it. I really don't care too much for her as a singer, but she is suffering from two problems. The first is her weight and the second is her thinking that she does not have a problem and that her fans are going to love her anyway. Nobody is going to love her when she is DEAD!!. She brought this weight problem upon herself, so if people are going to use it as gossip fotter then I guess it is she that is going to have to put a stop to it. She does not need sympathy she needs intervention.
