Spike Lee honored by British Film Academy

The British Film Academy honored Spike Lee on Thursday as "one of the most influential and important filmmakers of our time".Lee,director of "She's Gotta Have It","Do The Right Thing","Malcolm X","Summer Of Sam" and "The Original Kings Of Comedy" received a Special Award and was interviewed before an audience of academy members and critic Bonnie Greer.

"As one of the most prolific directors of the last two decades,Spike Lee is inspiring to a generation of filmmakers",the academy said.Previous winners include Maggie Smith,Audrey Hepburn and Peggy Ashcroft.
