hotboxing: The act of smoking marijuana in an enclosed area to which no outside air can enter maximizing the effect of the marijuana through both first and second hand smoke. Haha! That's great! I was totally not expecting this from you!

I was totally not expecting this from you! I don't smoke. I had a friend explain what this was to me, and it's such a funny term that I've remembered it. [Edited 11/6/08 19:10pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I'm listening for the first time right now. I will admit that the Blind Melon song is not the worst piece of crap I've ever heard.

The end of your mix was what I expected the whole thing to sound like. The Eels song was very nice. I'll post a full review on Monday.

If You See Natalie - Eels - Like I said in other threads, I love strings and the strings on this track compliment the piano melody very well. Reminds me a little of NDRU's Badly Drawn Boy mixtape.
I Wonder - Blind Melon - I was ready to hate this song, but I can't really. Once the electric guitar comes in, it takes me back to music like the Singles soundtrack which mixes grunge with classic rock. Although this song obviously is heavy on the classic rock side. Still don't like the band though. Pepper - Butthole Surfers - I remember this song. It trudges along very nicely with alterna-rock guitars over Beastie Boys-type beats. Hits of Sunshine (for Allen Ginsberg) - Sonic Youth - Some Sonic Youth I really like (the Goo and Dirty albums) and some I find very boring. An 11-minute song like this one requires a lot more attention than I've been able to give it so far. I've listened to it twice already and both times I've spaced out and lost focus in the middle. Big Day Coming - Yo La Tengo - I had one Yo La Tengo album (I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One) which I thought had some cool ethereal elements in it, but I don't hear any of that in this track. I do see a clear connection though between this and the previous song by Sonic Youth in terms of length and subtlety. Makes sense for them to play together. Jenny & The Ess-Dog - Stephen Malkmus - Halfway through this song shows some appeal. Before then I thought of it as generic indie rock that I usually avoid. Elliptical - Me’Shell Ndegeocello - Not my favorite from this Me'Shell album, but still a good song. I like the mellow Star Trek vibe. Son Of Neckbone - Beastie Boys - This is very cool funky instrumental. It makes for a nice bridge from Me'Shell to the trip-hop songs at the end of your mix. Reign Dub - Dual Tone - There's a great ambiance to this track. The echo combined with the slow trance-like beat and the sparse spoken Jamaican accented vocals makes this song hypnotic. I feel like I should be smoking something. Sweet Tides - Thievery Corporation feat. LouLou - This is my favorite song on the mixtape. Nice vocals and I love how the keyboards lightly float in the background of the chorus. I was able to sit through the mix more than once. Go figure.
