If just "Greatest Hits" then the Jackson 5's Greatest Hits from 1971.

That's a pretty good one. Very concise. The reason I will not rate the other Jackson 5 anthologies.

This one is excellent! Still say it is a perfect introduction for people new to Bjork. It's just her singles so people might find them familiar.

It's imperfect...no Selmasongs in it! Gimme the Family Tree boxset instead!!!

An excellent one even if you have all of Boogie Down Productions and KRS One's albums:

Jive Records even properly licensed the 1987 pre-Jive material ("South Bronx", "The Bridge Is Over") which is essential.

Most hits packages include the token "new song" to try and sell the collection. No! This one has one very rare song on the end ("Essays On BDPism") which had only been released once on a 1988 Jive compilation (now long out of print).

A Retrospective
1 My Philosophy 5:37
2 I'm Still #1 5:09
3 South Bronx 5:08
4 Sound Of Da Police 4:18
5 Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love) 6:39
6 Step Into A World (Rapture's Delight) 4:50
7 You Must Learn 3:51
8 Jack Of Spades 4:50
9 The Bridge Is Over 3:26
10 Jimmy 4:12
11 Criminal Minded 5:18
12 Black Cop 2:59
13 MC's Act Like They Don't Know 4:44
14 Why Is That? 3:56
15 Outta Here 4:29
16 Essays on BDP-Ism 5:04

My only beef is that 1995's "Rappaz R. N. Dainja" is missing from this 2000 compilation.

I like this collection the same reason I like Bjork's. While both acts are renowned for their amazing albums that deserve examination, fortunately their highest heights are also some of their most brilliant singles. Collected here into one disc, as allmusic says "a manageable portion".

1 Check the Rhime 3:38
2 Bonita Applebum 3:36
3 Award Tour 3:26
4 Can I Kick It? 4:24
5 Scenario 4:09
6 Buggin' Out 3:39
7 If the Papes Come 4:14
8 Electric Relaxation 3:46
9 Jazz (We've Got) 4:10
10 I Left My Wallet in El Segundo 4:06
11 Hot Sex 2:45
12 Oh My God 3:24
13 Stressed Out (featuring Faith Evans) 4:53
14 Luck Of Lucien 4:32
15 Description Of A Fool 5:41
16 Keeping It Moving 3:48
17 Find a Way 3:23
18 Sucka N***a 3:56
19 Vivrant Thing

My only mild criticism is the label had the nerve to tack Q-Tip's solo hit "Vivrant Thing" on the end, but actually it is one of the most famous... I like hearing that song too, so Track 19 it is!

Then you haven't heard the best from KRS and must suss out that collection wink

If "Summer Jam" is an Underdogs track that can't make it on to Craig David's best of, then certainly one cannot expect R.E.M.'s "Radio Song" on a best of KRS-One. razz

No favorite greatest hits package by a particular artist because I have so many that are great. But when it comes to good greatest hits packages, Rhino Records does a good job with them.

I hate when a "greatest hits" album has the tracks in a chronological order. That's so amateurish. confused

I actually remember putting Prince's The Hits 1 and 2 in chronological order on a cassette to help me make some sense of his career, because I had yet to really get to know his albums.

But I agree it takes a little more thought to put singles in a different order.

Things like Beatles #1 in perfect chronological order I can understand... the recording quality actually changes substantially in those years.

For me, Run-D.M.C.'s hits package Together Forever: Greatest Hits 1983-1991 is right up there with Prince The Hits.

1. "Sucker M.C.'s (Krush Groove 1)" – 3:11
2. "Walk This Way" (feat. Aerosmith) – 5:11
3. "Together Forever (Krush Groove 4)" (live at Hollis Park 1984) – 3:34
4. "King of Rock" – 5:14
5. "Run's House" – 3:45
6. "It's Tricky" – 3:04
7. "Pause"
8. "You Be Illin'"
9. "My Adidas" – 2:49
10. "Here We Go" (Live at the Fun House) – 4:06
11. "Rock Box" – 5:32
12. "What's It All About" / "The Ave."
13. "Hard Times"
14. "Beats to the Rhyme" – 2:42
15. "Jam-Master Jay" – 3:12
16. "Peter Piper" – 3:23
17. "It's Like That" – 4:51
18. "Christmas In Hollis" - 2:57

This one was weird. They decided to include one song from 1990's Back From Hell album, but on cassette it was "What's It All About" and on CD it was "The Ave".

LL Cool J's All World: Greatest Hits is great because it has "Jack The Ripper" on it! And it was compiled before he fell off.

2. Rock the Bells
3. I'm Bad
4. I Need Love
5. Going Back to Cali
6. Jack the Ripper
7. Jingling Baby (Remixed But Still Jingling)
8. Big Ole Butt
9. The Boomin' System
10. Around the Way Girl
11. Mama Said Knock You Out
12. Back Seat
13. I Need a Beat
14. Doin' It
15. Loungin' (Who Do Ya Luv)
16. Hey Lover (featuring Boyz II Men)

Janet - Design of a Decade

This one is nice when you don't wanna listen to Control and RN1814 as they are because they actually messed with the order of the singles. Plus it has "Runaway" and mostly the 7" or video edits of the singles.

It ain't designin' no decades though, with only a nod to 1993's janet with "That's The Way Love Goes" and a couple new songs.

Well, it covered her work for 86 to 96 (really 95 because it came out in 95). Considering "janet." came out in 93 on Virgin and was promoted through mid-94.

Pretty bad if 1993-1994 was only represented with "That's The Way Love Goes" though, considering the success of the janet. era hits.

Design Of A Decade shoulda been called Janet Jackson - ''Mostly The Late Eighties''
