all of her children have been baptised in the Catholic Church. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

Why disturbing? Lots of Scots wear their kilts for formal occassions.

I will offer you some freudian insight:
It's a disturbing sight for us to see for the reason that Madonna is wearing a white wedding gown. Now, as we know the whiteness of it is meant to symbolize that the bride is pure and unspoilt, which implies primarily that the bride is a virgin. We can deal with this provoked thought being just an illusion (or just possibly "untrue"), as we can do with the mental image of purity alone, and provided that it is doubled up in the field of the sensed by a sufficiently corresponding phenomenon (relying itself on secondary properties, thus uppercutting by a detour the primary function of the Father but, only within a specific Event), which in itself backs up the symbolic referential status in regards with this common social practice. This usually produces us a sufficient amount of comfort as the observers, at least momentarily - the fundamental problem is just that we all already know Madonna has never been a virgin.

On a more serious note:
I guess a lot of people are disappointed seeing Madonna now getting divorced, even ones who weren't fans. She was just one of the very first public female figures who openly endorsed sexuality, and downright questionable values, and seeing her getting married and settling down in the "English country-side" together with his husband who seemed like a decent and relaxed guy. I mean Guy wasn't the type of man you had been associating Madonna before (or moreover, a woman), so he seemed like a good choice in many people's eyes. It just made sense, and sounded like an optimal resolution to her own personal struggles, and the media image she had and which was about to become quite problematic. From that point onwards you could be sure she was just mostly "portraying" the sexual things in her videos, "for her art". So for many this provided a rather comforting thought, "okay, here we have someone who is known widely for utilizing her sexuality to advance her career, who even had the nerve to take pride on her ways, but now she can lead decent family life with children and get old in a peaceful way", Victory for common moralist values then - alas, fantasy crushed in the end.
