This song was also recorded by Blue Magic around the same time (1974) but their version isn't nearly as good as the Main Ingredient.

That song's all good and dandy but I'm in love with this joint (pre-Cuba Gooding, Sr.):

This thread reminds me: there's a really good Main Ingredient compilation that was released not so long ago.I'm gonna pick it up this weekend. It is superior to previous compilations and it even includes the full-length extended version of "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend" music

Yeah it was before Cuba joined the group. The lead singer of the song died of leukemia a few months after that song came out. Cuba joined shortly after that and they came out with "Everybody Plays the Fool". It probably wasn't played on pop stations anyway.

I think both versions are great in their own unique way. I actually had heard the Blue Magic version first and liked it. But this version kicks ass too.

Isn't it amazing how *soulful* the R&B songs were back then? You listen to this stuff and you can actually FEEL what they're singing. There's so much emotion in these songs!

That was nice...So is this the ORIGINAL version? Originally produced by Thom Bell? This song was very popular back then. Any other versions out there?
