Fake tears? True. He also made an excellent point about how much more tuneful her earlier material was. These are points that most other reviewers would ignore. As for the review at the start, it's dishonesty is apparent when you see in the middle of all the sycophancy, this surprisingly perceptive criticism in the middle.... "Jackson should engage the crowd more. At times, she seemed preoccupied with getting through all the numbers rather than enjoying herself and the audience that worshipped her. A few more spontaneous moments with the audience would give the production more of a concert feel and less the sense that you’re watching a Broadway show that doesn’t change from night to night". This shows that the reviewer is well aware of one of the fundamental flaws in Janet's whole act. That is, just how calculated and rehearsed it all is. But, keen not to undermine his heroine, he sticks this in the middle of a sea of ass licking, hoping that no one will notice what a huge criticism that really is. He even downplays it as just a "minor flaw". Most tellingly, he makes NO MENTION WHATSOEVER about the fact that the show is so obviously mimed. That's a pretty important thing to ignore, wouldn't you agree? He ends by talking about how she is still "innovating" on stage. Errr, "innovating" what exactly? [Edited 10/17/08 20:20pm] pointing out that she used pre-recorded vocals during her show is like a waste of time imo, i mean who dont know that? what you seem to have a problem realizing is that janet's FANS dont really care if she cries on que or if its not 100% live, she is a great performer and most of us love to watch her perform all those hits and we go to the show and have a good time. i guess i just dont take my pop stars as serious as some of you, i've been to every janet tour and i have never been disappointed and from the sounds of the people who have actually gone to the show and not just watch clips on youtube and read reviews, nobody seem to be disappointed with this show. i cant wait to see the show at the garden Me too

They're written for the general public, who may only have a passing interest in the artist and just want to get an objective picture of what went down. Therefore, reviewers should try not to let their adulation cloud their objectivity. But this guy was writing for a gay magazine so I guess adulation is pretty much compulsory in those circumstances. to be fair shouldnt reviewers also not let their dislike for the artists cloud their objectivity? a review is only that person's opinion so if one person loved the show and the other didnt thats just 2 different opinions,it dont make any of them right or wrong Well, he gave her credit for being in good shape, and also said the music was mostly great. He thought the more recent songs compared unfavourably to the older stuff, but most people think that. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I must admit the Discipline portion was pretty hot. Especially since the guy she pulled up wasn’t bad looking either.
I liked the clip of Dave Navarro for Black Cat. I know most people think he’s gross but there’s something about him so that was a pleasant surprise. So Much Betta, Rock With U, All Night which I think has replaced If as my all time favorite concert song, and I Get So Lonely were stand outs. The highlight for me was when she performed a few songs from her first two albums and said "this is for all of my true fans!" Also, when she had the segment which was an ode to the 80's breakdancing/graffiti. Nothing but pure dance songs, as someone mentioned already: So Excited So Much Betta Nasty All Nite (Don't Stop) Rock With U Together Again I also got a high off of the Rhythm Nation songs. I can't choose just one highlight as you can see. And when Q-Tip showed up on the screen during "Got Til It's Gone." [Edited 10/20/08 10:21am]

My only complaint was I wanted her to do the whole song, not a portion especially the break down for Say You Do. I liked seeing Q-Tip too. I was not a fan of So Excited but I liked it during the show and it worked well with the other songs. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

really enjoyed All Nite, Got Til Its Gone, I Get Lonely, Love Will Never Do, Miss U Much, So Much Betta (surprisingly), & the pre-Control trio medley
overall i thought it was a really good show, i was pleased with the modifications, new dance routines sprinkled in and set design. The Discipline segment was omitted at the Detroit show due to a state ordinance. What other songs were included, because Discipline is my least fave ballad from her ever. BTW, today's paper (Det. news) gave the show a pretty bad review too, a D+ Least memorable set of dancers she's ever had though. The b-boy from NY had mad skillz tho

1. "So Excited" - The turning point for the concert. She kicked the energy level up to max on this song and broke the handle off. I'm not even going to lie like "So Excited" isn't the song I have been listening to most from Janet for the past few months and that it isn't one of my favorite JJ singles of this decade...clearly I was anticipating it. Honestly, she and her dancers worked this one out and, in a stadium setting, the song comes alive. Loved it! Definitely *the* highlight (as was the hip-hop section of the show). 2. "All For You" - The song that the audience seemed to be into the most (considering this was her last massive hit, it makes sense), and to look around and see everyone getting down to it was magical. The choreography was well executed and, like "So Excited", it sounds very, very good live. I loved that she used the SuperBowl mix. This was another song I was anticipating. 3. "Together Again" - I shed a couple tears. This song means a lot to me as well as a bunch of other people. I wasn't quite feeling the theming but her behind was certainly on-point . 4. "I Get Lonely" - Period. The only thing missing was the bra. 5. "The Pleasure Principle" - Great opening. She certainly took into account (the singles) her fans like best. Honorable Mentions..."If", "That's The Way Love Goes", "Call On Me" (the performance made me like this song so much more). Slight Disappointments (no particular order): 1. "Got Til It's Gone" - As my favorite song of all time, I loved seeing Q-Tip on the screen and seeing how Janet would fit a theme with the song. However, for being a song with such an incredible simmering and slow-burning energy, she seemed kind of bored with it. I think I wanted to see this one too much. 2. "Rock With U" - I don't know...it was great and all but this song probably suffered the most from not being performed with a live band. I'm sure it would have amped it up so much more. I liked "So Excited" and "All Nite" a bit more. 3. "You Want This" - I can't believe she only performed a hot minute of this song. Nice segue into "Feedback" but I was hurt that she only delivered a taste of a song she hasn't performed since the Janet. Tour. I saw the concert in Dallas, BTW. I still think she could have excised the Janet Jackson/Dream Street section and put in some fan-favorite NON-singles instead. I guess we'll never hear "SloLove", "Strawberry Bounce", "The Body That Loves You", "Empty" and "My Need" live [Edited 10/29/08 17:27pm] [Edited 10/29/08 17:29pm]

I read about that too. She also cut Discipline out. I wonder what she does in place of it or do they just skip over it. That’s a pretty long (hot) segment of the show and those fans have no clue. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

21.000 is like the max number, I seriously doubt 21,000 tickets went on sale to the public (nobody does that unless your using a centered stage).. take away seat for the stage and etc. the best way to figure out sales is to look at the billborad boxscore ans see how many tickets sold, from the tickets that were made avaibale. also I am sure people did get refunds when she canlled and reseduacled, I am sure she losts some sales form that too.

Take away seats at the side for the stage, but surely all the floor seats make up for that compared to sports games.

Sounds like the publicity from her illness didn't have the desired effect. As for that latest review giving her show a D+, I say ban all straight men from reviewing her. That'll soon get her grade point average up. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Honestly, I felt the exact same way. My friend and I could not believe she was still pulling guys out of the audience and we were very ho hum through the first half of it. We got into during the second half because of the guy and the folks in our section made it fun but you’re right, overall it’s quite played. I think she and the girls spent entirely too much time ‘picking’ a guy. It felt like 20 minutes of them walking around with their finger in their mouth. The segment could have been better if at least one dancer was actually appealing. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
