Z Cult Wondermint/Teena Marie's "Robbery" Album Cover

In light of my girl Teena Marie's thread by dancerella and since there is love on here for Teena, (which I never knew that it existed in abundance) I want to pose a question that I once posed on here in this forum at least 4 years ago. On the cover of "Robbery" where a brutha is handing Teena a piece of paper. Have any of you ever noticed on the paper is the the name of The Time's song "777-9311"? If you look at your album cover, you will see the first part of the phone number which is "777-9". The rest is covered up by the brutha's hand. Just wondering if this batch of people that's on this site now ever noticed this?

It's there...Teena showing her love for P and The Time. I always thought that was cool. Rick was probably having a fit though.

The album cover was another one of those "it is just me?". This album came after the MONSTER "It must be Magic" which included, among other songs, Square Biz, Portuguese Love, and *sniff* Yes Indeed.

The album after this, Starchild, had some great tunes on it as well. Lovergirl, anyone?

But Robbery was an interesting album; The title cut was good. I can't get the opening riff out of my head now, but my favorite cut on the album had to be...

Casanova Brown...

Heh.

For me, the albums that came just before and just after "Robbery" were much more interesting...

That's really interesting. I gotta buy some more Teena Marie. I only own a hits set and her later Cash Money releases, which are iffy.

the "Out On A Limb"/"Alibi" section
turns me into mush wink

I like Starchild
but not as much as Robbery
perhaps I need to play
it some more times in full

I had that on vinyl and on tape. Now I have it on CD.
I must have played "Out on a Limb" about three thousand times.
2500 times just to learn what she sang the line "and my cup was full"

Damn. Make that three thousand and one. It never gets old. smile

I fell in love with OOAL
after a drag show some years back
picture it... New Orleans, LA
pre-Hurricane Katrina
the Sahara Pub

the reaction of everyone in the place
just had me FULL... EVERYBODY was into it
queens, butches, butch queens, trade
you name it, they were singing along

I went home that next day &
found the song on AUDIOGALAXY (memba dat?)
and it's been one of my favorites
of Teena's ever since...

man it used to go UP
in the Sahara Pub...
I used to go mainly for the
strip shows (on Mondays)
and to hear the latest bounce music

I met Bobby Blake (gay porn star) there
for Mardi Gras one year
it's a shame we showed up
too late to see him & his crew strip
(I heard they was CUTTIN THE FUCK UP
before we got there)
but he bought me a drink & errthang

I can dig it. Hell, so was I at first. But after awhile, my young mind's attention drifted to "What is that brutha giving Teena?..Is that weed or what?" Then that's when I noticed the piece of paper had Dez's phone number on it. Hell pill, u know what? THAT'S Dez's arm and shit...He's the brutha on the cover giving Teena his number!

Nah, I'm just playin'. I only say it's Dez cuz 777-9311 was Dez's real home phone number at the time of The Time's song. Of course, after P wrote that song and used Dez's number, Dez had to change it.

biggrin Nah,...the only reason that I know this is because it's been written about where Dez has talked about it.
