You're actually on to something here. I think I fell in love with her themes of self-esteem and empowerment.

"Not gonna letcha use me"
"I'll call my own shots, thank you"
"I never ask for more than I deserve"
"I'm not a prude, I just want some respect"
"I didn't really know not to let all my feelings show, to save some for later so our love can be greater"
"Baby you can't hold me down! baby you can't hold me dowwwwn"
"Information keeps us strong", I mean there's so many from the RN1814 album.
"African American woman - I stand, tall, with, pride"

I was just listening to "janet." and played "New Agenda"....what a song. I mean, I'm shocked she has nothing to say about the Bush administration after writing something like RN1814.

There was a period after Live Aid and "We are the World" where every artist felt they had to show their social consciousness (even Madonna wrote "Love Makes The World Go Round"). Janet never had any deep regard for those issues. It was just fashionable at the time. It's not now. If it gets fashionable again, then she'll start singing those kinds of songs again. If not, then she won't. And remember, Rene (who co-wrote all those songs) is not there to save her from her own shallowness anymore, so I wouldn't hold your breath for that political stuff.

Cinnie

I don't expect her to be "political", but I don't think dignity and self-worth ever goes out of style.

I think JJ's got a personal record still left in her.
