Justin Timberlake, Phil Collins, Rod Stewart, George Michael to name a few.

Lionel Richie

And by far the best songwriter out of the solo artists to leave their
respective groups/bands.

I think Aaron Hall in turn got his vocal style from Charlie Wilson.

Charlie Wilson > Aaron Hall > R. Kelly > Montell Jordan barf

It's no secret. During Guy's heyday the group admitted that they were
influenced by the gap band. And charlie wilson upon the gap band's
Round Trip album stated that's why they came back in the game because
they influenced the guy/teddy riley sound.

Yeah i remember. It was pretty good too.
Do you remember Charlie's first solo album you turn my life around?
The single sprung on me was a message to artists that bit his style.
It seemed like Uncle Charlie was trying to send a message that he was
still king. lol
I have that album on cassette and it was actually a darn good set.

hmmm I'd agree with you in terms of volume, but I'm thinking George Michael is a more consistent songwriter as a solo artist.

I totally remember Charlie's debut. nod

He was on Candy Girl, too! nod

I know, but even Under the Blue Moon was more successful than that album. He wasn't a part of their 3rd-biggest album, Heart Break, but he was on the other 3 multi-platinum albums they released.

"3 of their 4 biggest-selling albums"

Okay, gotcha...thumbs up!

So so true...LOL

I may be wrong.... but It seams more often than not... but I do beleive that the rate of success after belonging to a successful group is not that great. They may do OK... but seldom as good as the group did. The shame is that their leaving almost always destroys the group. They sometimes try to get it back later... but once thatboat has sailed... its hard to catch another.

En Vogue comes to mind. Dawn ruined that group with her shenanigans. 10+ years later Dawn finally decides to get back with the group. It's too late now. The climate of the music industry has changed since 1997. Plus, they are too old now to make a real comeback. Such a shame.

I am surprised they even wanted her back in the group.

You don't remember all of the stories about Dawn having MAJOR attitude in both Lucy Pearl and En Vogue?
