Those were the days! I remember there was another song out at the same time that sounded the same ( http://www.youtube.com/wa...pv4XJoOE8Q ), had the same drum beat. [Edited 10/10/08 18:33pm]

Im very surpised that no NEW pop female has ever covered it, and sexed up the video. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I never liked this song. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Even though I think it was a top ten hit, those girls these days don't really know the classics. If they ever do covers, it's always major pop hits. Someone like Christina might not even be all the influenced by good dance pop and Britney probalby do not much about Madonna beyond the signature hits. The guys aren't much better. Even though someone like Justin is influenced by Michael Jackson and Prince, I think it's for all the wrong reasons. He can technicanlly make great pop songs, but there is no real heart and soul there.

I think that era of music is lost to this generation and its pretty sad it is. I think that era of music is lost to this generation and its pretty sad it is. I think sadly, you're right. Uneducated fools! Sort of in that vein, I know P. Diddy's last album was very dance heavy (more of a dance album than a hip hop album). Something like "Last Night" was blatant Prince (if it didn't take a sample from "Erotic City" it came damn close because I even remember a local radio station mashing up the two). Anyone know if he represented a little freestyle on there? Relating back to Corina, as people probably know, her last semi hit was in 1997 with a cover of "Summertime, Summertime". I really dug it and it was on the 2nd "So So Def Bass All Stars" CD. Sort of the last time good dance music was in the same company as hip-hop.

I have that 12" as well as the followup singles "A Day In My Life (Without You)" and "Never Say Never". This was in the later days of freestyle when it was trying to be revived as "new school".

As for this Corina song, it's okay. I much preferred her earlier single "Give Me Back My Heart".

Didn't even know she had another single. She's had a few. The first single I remember hearing was "Out Of Control": Give Me Back My Heart:

Cinnie said: lilgish said: I don't remember that. That sounds like Freestyle. Yeah this whole thread is rooted in Freestyle.. I always wondered about this... Why Freestyle is actually called freestyle is subject to speculation. Some feel the term freestyle may refer to the difference between the mixing techniques used by DJs spinning this form of music (at least in its pre-house incarnations) and those who were spinning disco, the only other widely played dance music that incorporated sung vocals. Disco, with its relatively predictable beat structure, could be mixed with smooth, slow, and consistent techniques, but freestyle's syncopated beat structures demanded that DJs get creative, incorporating aspects of both disco and hip-hop techniques; they often had to (or had more freedom to) mix more quickly and more responsively to the individual pieces of music. Others believe it refers to the vocal technique: singing melodic pop vocals over the kind of beats that were previously used only with rap and semi-chanted electro-funk vocal styles was a form of freestyling —getting creative by mixing up the styles— somewhat akin to the use of the term in reference to competitive freestyle rap. Another explanation is that the dancing associated with this music allows for a great degree of freedom of expression than the other music that was prevalent at the time. Each individual dancer is free to create his or her own style. In Miami, the freestyle name evolved after confusion between Tony Butler's track Freestyle Express by Freestyle and Debbie Deb's When I Hear Music, a slightly older but more popular track that was produced by Butler. The sound became synonymous with Butler's production, and the name of the group he was in, Freestyle, became the genre's name. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...tyle_music

I heard many artists didn't like that term though.

God how I loved this song! That 90s production is so horrifying in so many songs but it's what makes this song so great! There's something New Wave about the song 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
