From what I know, if Prince doesn't own the masters, he can't deny clearance. If it was Pop Life, then Ja would just need to get permission from Warner. Ginuwine didn't get Prince's ok for When Doves Cry and Prince was pissed Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer.

Where have you been?!? Some of the rap artists before Ja Rule's time were undercover Prince fans (Egyptian Lover, anyone?!?). 2pac & MC Hammer were real die-hard Prince fans. Even when some hip-hop & rap critics were bashing Prince, Pac & Hammer still had nothing but respect for the man. That is THE only reason why Prince never had a problem with those guys sampling his music. Shug Knight is a HUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE Prince fan (literally and figuratively). That is THE only reason why Prince never had a problem with those guys sampling his music. Hey, I said shit hop, not hip hop. There is a difference. As for Egyptian Lover, I love me some Egyptian Lover. He was an actual artist. He made his jams original from the ground up and came up with his own melodies and played instruments. When he did use a sample, it was done in a creative way of playing only a one or two second snip of the song over his original music. Shit hoppers use a sample as the main foundation for their song and melody. And what's worse, is they use it over a weak sounding drum machine that barely taps and they never get past midtempo. Egyptian Lover was far from the shit hop category. His music was original, his tempo was ass shakable, and his drum machines pounded hard, not soft. As for Borepac Shakur, he falls in the shit hop category. And let's not forget who invented the word shit hop so I control the definition of the word. . . . How does Ja Rule matter anymore. Not attacking the original poster, but it's almost like saying "VinnyM27 dissed Prince?". Ja Rule might as well be a loser on a message board....oh, wait...He's not even good enough to be a loser on a message board!

UncleGrandpa said: 1. Isn't it Prince's right to reject or refuse a use of a sample for his music, just like it would be for any original artist who actually wrote the music?
2. Did Tupac and Dr. Dre get clearances for the Prince samples they used, and why is Ja using the same song that PAC used for one of his post-humous songs? Can't this guy buy an original idea? 3. Who fucking cares about Ja anymore? He was so soundly beat and shut down by 50 and Eminem that he couldn't sell whiskey to a drunk guy, why waste your time listening to him again? Now is a sample in the sense he is talking about like taking an actual piece of one of Prince's songs? Cause if they wanted to just reproduce the sound and give him credit, they probably do not have to get his approval, right? It would almost be like covering a song, which you do not need to get approval for.

I think you are all being a bit too harsh on the guy. I mean he's definitely been always down with the four fundamental elements of hiphop: rapping, sampling, clothing and driving around on inexplainable motor vehicles in music videos. He's real.
