Living Colour thread

Two items of note to document the band as of 2005. These are two Seperate packages: a live concert CD recorded at CBGB August 2005 and a live concert DVD from Paris also in 2005 that features a cover of "Papa Was a Rolling Stone".

Also in the midst of their European tour, they stopped at Sono studio in Czech Republic to record tunes for a new album in 2009. All initial recording of demos was been completed and post-production will resume after tour ends.[/b].

These songs have been identified: "Method 2 The Madness" (played 10/19/2008 in Graz, Austria) , "Martin's Mountain", "Storm Crow" and "Bless Those" (which has been in the setlist as far back as 2003).

Also note, GUITAR HERO III features a newly recorded studio version of "Cult of Personality" with Doug Wimbish on bass.

LIVING COLOUR will release a new live album, "CBGB OMFUG Masters: August 19, 2005 The Bowery Collection", on October 28. Recorded live at a benefit for CBGBs at the famed New York City institution on August 19, 2005, the disc features LIVING COLOUR's original mix of rock, funk, punk and even reggae. Anchored by Corey Glover on vocals and Vernon Reid on guitar, this CD spans the band's career and includes the hits "Glamour Boys" and "Cult of Personality", as well as timely songs like "Open Letter to a Landlord", "Terrorism" and "Sacred Ground". This is a pristine live recording, direct from the soundboard.

Track listing:

01. Type
02. Middle Man
03. Funny Vibe
04. In Your Name
05. Sacred Ground
06. Open Letter to a Landlord
07. Terrorism
08. Glamour Boys
09. Ignorance is Bliss
10. Love Rears Its Ugly Head
11. Time's Up
12. Cult of Personality

MVD/Inakustik has set a November 11 release date for the new LIVING COLOUR DVD entitled "The Paris Concert". A desription of the title reads as follows: "For their millions of fans aroud the world, LIVING COLOUR needs no introductions: Vernon Reid, Will Calhoun, Doug Wimbish and Corey Glover are among the leading New York musicians who helped break down the doors leading to a renewed musical landscape in the '80s. They're one the very few groups — if not the first and only — that can be coined as authentic sons of Jimi Hendrix. This is obvious in the intense concert these masters of groove gave at the New Morning in 2007. A treat for all connaisseurs who are aware of the fact that LIVING COLOUR's groundbreaking music is the most impressive when it is performed in the intimate heat of a club!"

"The Paris Concert" DVD track listing:

LC has been one of the most unsung bands of the last 20 years, but as always real music will stand the test of time....

Thanks PFunkjazz for all this info!
This is the only place I get any LC updates. Was wondering how the new album was coming along. 2009 huh? Oh well, I've waited this long. We'll have the new DVD to tide us over. smile Good to see a lot of Collideoscope stuff on the new DVD as well.

More news regarding a contest to name and design the new LC album...

The Chair In The Doorway (Flickr group)

http://www.flickr.com/gro...hedoorway/
The Chair In The Doorway Flickr Group

A potential title for Living Colour's new album is "The Chair in the
Doorway". The band would like fans, non-fans, and photographers of all
levels to submit an original image conveying their interpretation of
"The Chair in the Doorway".

"The new album will be called The Chair In The Doorway," Vernon
revealed. "I did a press junket for CollideØscope with Corey and
whenever something was going wrong Corey would always say the chair is
in the doorway. It was just one of these things he would say and I
looked at him and said 'you know that thing you always say that's
going to be the title of our next album.' I don't know what that means
but that's it. What I like about The Chair In The Doorway is that it
is a concrete image and a very real thing but why is there a chair in
the door way, what does it mean? It's completely abstract, while being
a contract, physical manifestation of what it is."

All artwork must be submitted in a jpeg format.
You should incorporate the Living Colour logo, or your version of the
logo in the artwork.
If your submission is selected you will also be required to sign a
short agreement.
All submissions must be submitted by February 1, 2009.
You may submit as many different versions of the album cover as you
like as long as the submitted artwork meet the following criteria

- Artwork can be hand drawn or created on the computer;
- The design must be 100% your work;

By submitting your artwork to Living Colour, entrants hereby represent
and warrant that all artwork and images included in the artwork are
wholly original and that no image or artwork has been copied from any
other source or otherwise violate any third party rights. Living
Colour, its individual members, affiliates, licensees and assigns will
not be responsible or held liable for any images or artwork which are
included in any submitted materials which have been copied from any
other source.

The creator of the selected artwork agrees to license the design to
Living Colour on an exclusive basis. The creator of the selected
artwork acknowledge that Living Colour may commercially release or
otherwise exploit the artwork in any manner it deems fit, now or
hereinafter invented, throughout the world, and that creator of the
artwork shall not be entitled to any payment of any kind as a result
of such use or other exploitation.

I think some of my words for this band in the past threads on this board were a bit too harsh, and somewhat unfounded. Of course I've always maintained that Vernon Reid's first solo record is one of my favourite albums of all time, and he seems like a very intelligent person in interviews (and he's a fellow gear nut).

But given that in my opinion Living Colour was more of a product of its time - and ultimately ended up suffering from some of the production standards associated with that time frame - I can only hope the band would be still in their creative peak TODAY, so they could actually benefit from more rawer approach to their music. Instead of having a bit too much of that "Van Halen" -stigma to their recordings. So fingers crossed that they will get the production values right this time. And why shouldn't they.

Love this band. I've seen some European footage as of late and thought it interesting to what they've become as a band, I saw them cover the White Stripe "Seven Nation Army"...it was good.

Not sure what you're referring to.
Ya might wanna check the latest issue of SPIN (Nov '08) cuz there's a 4 -5 page feature on Black Rock. The roundtable feature Vernon, Corey, Jimi, Rick Angelo and some newer folks like Daniela Cotton and a guy from Dragons of Zynth.

i agree.....their first album was just too large and i think Glover had quite an ego so their other albums were not nearly as good as the first

I respectively disagree.
I think Stain and Collideoscope are much better albums. IMO.
I like the first and it was a very important record, but I turn to it the least.
This may be sacrireligious to some but Collidescope is prolly my fave.
Anyway, LC fans don't forget Live concert broadcast today at 02:30pm eastern time. cool

Living Colour at 013 Tilburg, The Netherlands, oct. 31th 2008. Performing a new song called Deca-Dance. It will be on their next album Chair in the doorway.

plus "Method 2 the Madness"

Yeah vocals are muddied-up but it's great that the guys are active touring and recording new material.
