Prince used to average 3-4 million sales per album at his peak, MJ around 20m. (Thriller and Purple Rain being the exceptions, of course.)
I can't see either of them hitting those heights again. Fans of both should just enjoy the fact that they're still recording and put the sales war behind them.

I've had my issues with Mike, I can't lie about that and I've expressed them here for years, but I'm slowly, that's the key word for me, getting myself to remember why I was an MJ fan in the first place. Buying the remastered Jacksons CD's last week, Destiny and Triumph, got me excited about MJ and his voice for the first time since I was a kid and I hit 30 in March. I dig them both in their own ways and hopefully they will come out strong on their next CD's. I have faith that P and MJ can and they will.
