Interesting. I gotta see about "Because I Love It".

Well Columbia is gonna cash in on what they blew. They shelved the best mainstream female RB record in a long time, the stuff people are praising Solange for was all being done by Amerie years earlier. The Best of is a cool thing too even though its to cash in on her because they let her go while she owed albums on the deal, but the inclusion of un-released tracks and "Im coming out" the Diana Cover is a good thing. Though i know they will NOT do anything promo wise for this record, either the "Because I love it" nor The best of, hopefully Amerie will get on some shows here in the USA as opposed to doing all her promo overseas.

And of course Amerie's got the looks and sex appeal to knock them all on their asses, Sexy without even trying

One thing about Amerie that i like more than anything (besides her killer looks and legs) is her style, she thrives off of doing things her way, and she is very smart and has managed her own career and cur her own deals.

Has the standard for "best of" titles gotten so low?

I like Amerie and her last album was slamming. But she's had maybe 3 hits from 3 albums. Don't think that qualifies as worthy of a "greatest hits."

That's the difference between a hits collection and a "best of" (always been that way). Think of how many random 70s artists who had best of collections that weren't exactly packed to the gills with hit singles.

I actually like Amerie, but I don't think it's that strong of an album. The 80s tones on it are lovely, and the horns are rather splendid, but it's not really working on the whole to my ears.

What I don't get is that all these American pop artists do seem to be willing to include quite a lot of interesting - even artsy - parts on their records, but never going all the way and let such things dominate the music like they rightfully should.

Not withstanding the fact that I've only heard the song 1 thing, which I found weird sounding, and a song with LL Cool J in which she sang the hook. I'm sure they could have found an albums worth of her "best" material.

Those seventies sets were at least had the individual acts slightly more in mind. Here is what those "Playlist" CDs look like. Not all that different from the "20th/Millennium Century Collections" that have flooded the market for years. Only difference is not optional eco-packaging (although I think the "Millennium" collection also made that mandatory with newer releases). They are slightly generous with the tracks (15 compared to 12 on most budget sets) but what awful eighties inspired artwork! In the case of the Heart set, their worst photo ever along with a very limited track listing.

I don't think these sets are bigger sellers but are probably impulse buyers. Sad if they do sell online considering I found this much more appealing Heart hits set of only early stuff with a cheaper price and cool artwork.

Well thats really the issue when a label owns catalogs, they really can go nuts with these re-releases and re-packaging of hits, and then if they find a cut or two, a remix, or a bside never on cd, they have got the LOYAL fan hooked. These cds cost the label nothing to put together, the manufacturing of them is about a dollar per cd two at the most, which is why alot of them can sell from 7-9 dollars, the labels generally dont print many, and when they sell them to stores and the online shops, they sometimes force them into a no-return policy if they buy too much and they dont sell, which is why if you go into a store, most of them wont be stocking many copies.
