Remembering Born to Do it by Craig David In my opinion one of the best albums of this decade. This album's sound was so fresh when it was released and still sounds great today. It combined R&B,Hip-Hop and UK garage brilliantly. The beats, rythms and arrangements are great and the vocals incredibly smooth. He was only 19 when he did this. I think this album is so good I proclaim it the R&B and Garage Off The Wall. He has become a bit of a joke for some of the UK public due to that annoying idiot Avid Merrion's parodies of him but doesn't change how good this album was. If your one of those people who mock Craig David without listening to this album then your response is not welcome. Born To Do It was an instant classic for me and introduced me to UK Garage. This album kinda changed my life as I was 14 when it was released and made me really want to write songs and record my own material. Songs like Fill Me In, Rendezvous, Key To My Heart, You Know What, and 7 Days are still in regular rotation
I'm a huge Craig David fan and have bought every album he's released. I'm glad he's going back to his garage/dance roots with Are You Up For This and My First Love "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

The first album was the only decent one he did. He's not really that popular any more. He may as well come out now. It might even do him some good.

7 Days has a catchy melody and vocals. He can sing, His duet with Sting was decent too. But his new material is seriously lacking depth. [Edited 10/5/08 3:33am]

It's a strong pop/R&B album. I remember hearing the first single from the next album and I just thought to myself "I'll hold off on that".

I'm a huge Craig David fan and have bought every album he's released. I'm glad he's going back to his garage/dance roots with Are You Up For This and My First Love Great that the album had such an impact on you. I have fond memories of this album too. I seriously don't understand how some people feel this album is boring considering some of the monotonous music they listen too. This album has originality unlike snoozefests from Justin Timberlake, Usher, Madonna and many other Pop and R&B artists The melodies, vocals and rhythm arrangements on many of the songs are fantastic and sophisticated while melodies and rhythms on most songs by R&B artists like Maxwell and D'angelo are bland. They have good voices and are good looking but their songs are boring. I'll add 7 days and Rewind. 7 days Rewind [Edited 10/5/08 13:23pm]

I only have his first album. Are his other ones any good? Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer.

Mark Hill/Artful Dodger was on the money when he did the remixes of Fill Me In and 7 Days Slicker Than Your Average was okay, The Story Goes was a vast improvement and Trust Me is his best second to Born To Do It. His 5th album comes out next year and looks to be going back to his Garage roots "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. His 5th album comes out next year and looks to be going back to his Garage roots There were many remixes of both songs. I like Artful Dodger's remix of Fill Me In the best but I don't think I've heard a remix of 7 days by them. I heard the DJ Premier and Sunshine remix. I'd rate the quality of his albums in descending order as Born To Do it, The Story Goes..., Slicker Than Your Average, Trust Me . Lets hope that he does returns to his Garage roots on the next album. By the way have you heard the rumour that when Quincy Jones heard Born To Do It he thought it was so good he bought 50 copies and gave them to some of his friends?

I know this is an unusual choice, but my fav song from the album is "Can't Be Messin' Round". "Walking Away" after that. Love the album and I agree it sounds great to this day www.maximum-jackson.com

They didn't release his third album here in the States and quietly released his fourth one a couple months with barely any promotion and peaked at #59 on the US R&B album charts "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. That's sad. Soul acts in the UK generally don't do well or have longevity. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Well, his most recent album just went gold and peaked at #18 on the UK charts "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
