Duran Duran on board for next Bond Film 21

Duran Duran sing Another Day

By Richard Simpson Showbusiness Correspondent, Evening Standard
12 November 2002

James Bond producers are negotiating with the band behind the most
successful 007 theme song to get them on board for the secret agent's
21st outing.
Even before Die Another Day has had its royal premiere, Duran Duran
have been approached to record the music for the next Bond adventure.
In 1985, the band went to No1 in the US charts and No 2 in the UK
with the theme to A View To A Kill.

Band members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, Roger Taylor, Andy Taylor and
John Taylor have already reformed and recorded a new album.
They were approached even before Madonna signed up for Die Another
Day, but after the relatively poor performance of her single - it
peaked at No3 - the band were contacted again.

A source close to the band said: "Duran Duran have been in talks with
Bond's producers to make the next soundtrack - and they're really
keen. The current situation with the band is that they are on the
brink of landing one of the biggest comeback record deals of all time
and there are a number of labels still waiting to sign them."

Isn't it strange that a song can reach #3 and still be considered a "disappointment?"

Oh please! Madonna's theme song is a success any way you cut it.In America,it's at Number 10 (after two weeks at Number eight),and the song is Number 1 in 6 countries. It is also in the Top 5 in 18 other countries.

I really love Duran Duran but let's be honest here. They're not exactly guaranteed chart-toppers these days, and I seriously doubt that their theme song could outsell a Madonna single.

I think we're missing the point here. Madonna's song may not be a commercial disappointment, but it is a load of shite. Officially the worst Bond theme ever.

Oh please? Wow...such passion!! Such anger...hehehehe... your the one who declared that Die Another Day was the biggest hit of the year...I was simply reminding you of that lil declaration in what I thought was a tounge n cheek fashion... its was all in fun!!

discrediting another performer in your quest to prove madonna's supremecy is soo not cool...it harkens back to the "my dad is better then your dad" arguements in the playground...

just my two cents... wink

The whole soundtrack??? That would be super cool, mr.green probably just one song though. music

I can't wait for their new album to come out. heart Maybe artists writing their own music without formulas (and with a little imagination) will be popular again. shrug I hope, I hope, I hope. pray

For the record,I DID NOT say that "Die Another Day" would be the "biggest hit of the year"! I challenge you to search my posts and find the thread where I said that.I DID say that it would be a big hit,and it looks like I was right.

And no,I wasn't "discrediting" another performer because, like I mentioned already,I love Duran Duran too.I just think it's odd to predict how well THEIR James Bond theme song will do,when they aren't exactly guranteed chart-toppers these days.

Thank you! Finally hear part of the song and saw the video..and I thought it was AWFUL. Just Madonna's awful lyrics with a techno beat thrown over it. And what the hell is has to do with Bond (besides being the theme song); I don't know.

Damn you'd think they'd ask Prince to do a Bond theme song. After the Batman songs you'd think they'd think of asking him.

I think Madonna was trying to make a "non-conventional" James Bond theme. She could have easily recorded a sappy,over-produced ballad like "For Your Eyes Only",but she wisely chose to do something different.Madonna's theme song is edgy, original and just plain fun. It's also a great dance track. The lyrics are about destroying one's ego.

Like him or loath him, I would be surprised if Robbie Williams hasn't been approached at some point about doing a Bond song.

I would love to hear U2 do a real Bond song too (Bono and The Edge wrote Goldeneye for Tina Turner).

I love Duran Duran, they were my favourites between 81 and 84 THEN I discovered Prince!

I wonder if the reformed original line up Duran Duran will have any impact on the charts at all? I really hope their album kicks ass because they have done some classics in their time (Ordinary World in 93 is one of my all time top 10) And LeBon and Rhodes have certainly tried to keep going and working at a revivial.
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.
