B4 Princes Symbol guitar Todd Rundgren had this...

I came across this pic and noticed how similar this looks 2 princes symbol guitar. This could easily pass as the old symbol style if Prince chose 2 make a guitar out of that.

It's the ankh.

Altough I wouldn't be surprised if Prince had never seen Todd playing such a thing. During 93-94 the whole man was beginning to look like his own symbol - he had them absolutely everywhere - so the guitars were just begging to be customized into that shape as well.

They all look terribly uncomfortable to play, to be honest.

Even more reason why I clap for them. Those guys know how to do it, I wouldn't know how to handle it even if I did play guitar, lol.

He also sabotaged his commercial peak by releasing artsy and trippy albums right after the best-seller. lol

That's why American pop artists don't do it!

What I don't get is that all these American pop artists do seem to be willing to include quite a lot of interesting - even artsy - parts on their records, but never going all the way and let such things dominate the music like they rightfully should.

Actually playing it is rather smooth. Its still light weight.Just have to watch your legs at the bottom.

Todd has gone on record saying that a young P used to sneak backstage at his shows to meet him. P probably "borrowed" that idea from Todd.

pali, u probably don't remember this but a few years ago, I asked u to post a picture of Todd's guitar on here to show folks where P got this from. And you did. Anyway, there is NO way in hell Prince DIDN'T get his guitar from Todd. P liked Todd when he was growing up. He patterned himself after Todd just like he did Stevie and Shuggie.

Great pic! Todd is amazing. I saw him a few days ago @ the Triple Door. He played a handful of his classics then proceeded to play his new record in it's entirety. I already knew this, but after seeing Todd live I realize that his lead solos had a big influence on Princes.

Nothing new under the sun. What made Prince so successful is that the music audience realized a return on most of what he borrowed.

As to Todd, I really like his work. "I Saw The Light" is a great pop song.
