that said, i'm excited about them. True, we have been hearing this for years ... but most of their solo projects have been remastered, and have been rolling out for the past few years. I'm excited. I read on HydrogenAudio.org that we should still hold on to our old CDs, because the new ones will be overly compressed and clipped. I doubt I'll be doing that, because my old ones don't sound that good to me already.

the white album reissue that came out in 1998 (i think?) sounds pretty good. i don't know the story behind it in terms of sound remastering, but it sounds better to my ears than the initial CD release, if for no other reason i don't have to turn up the volume halfway to hell in order to hear everything.

The original pressing of the White Album on CD is truly awful. Probably the worst digital transfer of any of their albums. Magical Mystery Tour and Beatles For Sale were pretty dire as well. Mojo magazine were given a preview of 10 remastered White Album tracks and said the results were better than they could ever have imagined.

I'll never understand why peeps will buy remasters on iTunes. I mean isn't that beside the point? Christian Zombie Vampires

of all he original CD issues of their albums, i think the White Album is truly the worst. it sounds like it was mixed in 3 different sessions or something. one song is fine, then the next sounds muddy and quiet, then... etc.

I'd definitely like to hear Revolver in Mono. I wonder if it's the original Mono mix, though. My Legacy

Why would anyone want to hear it in Mono? Or even like the old stereo mixes? Christian Zombie Vampires

Because for the early-mid albums, Mono was basically considered the "real" mix. That's what George Martin & Geoff Emerick worked hardest to perfect. That's why the stereo mixes are so horrible--all the drums on one side, voices on the other. I've never listened in mono, and some say that's the way to hear it. Akin to hearing something on vinyl, I suppose, it's a subtle tweaking of a great thing. Of course, I'd like a good stereo remix of the early stuff if they could get it right. My Legacy

When the Beatles were producing it in the (Apple) studio, it was in mono. I think the stereo mix was done for the American market or something.
