Yael Naim (singer from the MacBook Air ad)

I heard Yael's song 'New Soul' in the MacBook Air commercial and thought I'd check out the album it came from. Glad I did, because I'm loving it. She's got a really pure voice, and her music is largely acoustic, but still endearingly kooky and 'offbeat' without being pretentious. She's also rather easy on the eye.....

Anyone else a fan?

I LOVE her. Late last year I saw her on tv doing a SOUL duet of all things with some other French artist---she can REALLY sing...SOUL music eek . I forget what they were covering but she had all these gorgeous inflections in her singing, I was GLUED to the tv like eek . She's a very versatile young woman,I'm enjoying her alot. heart

If I was ever to go on a shooting spree, that's the music I would be playing. I can't stand that type of music. That boring music that's supposed to be relaxing and hippy-ish. Hate it! Makes me mad instead of doing it's purpose. Along with that dreadful song "Bubbly" by Colby Caillat!

Aww... It's just one light and frothy song (like Prince with 'Starfish and Coffee' or something). As a one-off I think it's cute. (I might go postal if it was a whole album of the same though.....) wink

Funnily enough, I watched a performance on YouTube earlier today and thought she had some soul style inflections going on (especially on the 'la-la' bits). I couldn't place who it reminded me of, but it did make me wonder who her influences were.

Yup, I think she's great. I even put her in my 'Org music club mix': http://prince.org/msg/8/278892

I think the song 'Too Long' is the highlight of the album. Especially after I seen some live clips of it. She brings some weird funky electro bleep-bass line into the song, which works wonders for her sound. She is a bit sweet and a bit poppy, but I'm guessing she spices it up a bit when live.

Love to see her live. Shame she canceled the gig I had tickets for...
