Remember her from the late 80's early 90's with her hit single "don't wanna fall in love"? She seemed unique and interesting. how was that album? also was there any connection to prince? she seemed kinda freaky enough, lol!

i remember that song and "welcome to the real world".

i owned that album on cassette for like five minutes. i don't know what i was expecting, but i was disappointed because i thought it would be all punk rock and freaky. as if those two songs were anything vaguely close to punk rock or freaky. anyway, i got rid of it. yet i remember liking robbie nevil's album. i guess he was okay because he looked as geeky as his music.

I was the same way. I got the album and played "Don't Wanna Fall in Love" till it was worn out practically. "Welcome to the Real World" was fairly good too, but the rest of the album was a real dog as I recall. When college finances got tight and I needed to sell some CDs, that was the first to go.

Liked her voice, I just remember her long ass braids.

Other than being on WB and doing the whole "writer,producer, performer" shtick she didn't have any connection with P.

I enjoyed her stuff.

I remember liking the Jane Child album a lot. It's very late 80s synth-poppy. I still have it, but haven't listened to it in awhile. Her look was the most radical thing about her.

Jam & Lewis did a nice remix for "Welcome To The Real World" when the single was rereleased after "Don't Wanna Fall In Love".

Jane's stuff was tight. Her follow-up album was a lot more robust. I wonder, though, if it didn't get buried because of her pretty overt lesbian lyrics. Mid-1990s, that sort of thing wasn't done blatantly in pop. And, given that she'd always been sort of marginal, even with the chops and hits from her first album, her second plummeted.

I have that first album. It's OK, but the only killer track is of course, "I Don't Wanna Fall In Love". Most of the album has hints of that signature song but nothing quite hits the spot.

Funny and Very true story. (early 90's and Jane was hot) A friend and i were driving around hollywood in the wee hours of the morning. We see this 1950's edsel car (kinda strange looking car) and Jane was driving. I swear she was taking toke, her fingers were all up her nose. When we were sure it was Jane (the braids gave it away) my friend rolled down the window and at the top of his lungs he screamed....JAAAAANNNNEEEE!!!! (while driving) she dropped whatever she had in her hand and then covered her face with her left hand while continuing to drive with her right. We laughed for hours!!!!!
I'll never forget the look on her face when my friend screamed her name.
It was pricless!!
She was sooooo pissed off!

The series of compilations called Ultimate 16 has a nineties comp with "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" on it.. I bought it this summer for like $6 at Best Buy.

The follow-up album had some cool melodies. But, even by the late-1990s, the arrangements sounded a bit over-produced and slick.
