I hope not. Prince owns the Halftime show.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Bruce is going to play "Glory Days" and "Born In The USA" and end with "Born To Run" and critics transported back to their youth are going to write that it's "The Greatest Superbowl Performance Ever."

No one is a bigger Bruce fan than me, but I don't think he does well in an abbreviated format. His reputation as one of the best live performers of all-time largely centers around the experience he creates over 20 songs, or so.

They have a mutual admiration society and Bruce guested with Prince at the L.A. Forum in '85. P was backstage in St. Paul at the beginning of the Born in the U.S.A. Tour and Springsteen asked him to play, but apparently he said something like, 'No, man - it's your audience; I don't wanna intrude'.

Prince also took in the Tunnel of Love Express Tour and The Rising Tour. Bruce's wife, Patti Scialfa (pattiscialfa.net) is also a Prince fan and cited his innovative harmonies as an influence on her song, "Rainy Day Man".

Don't know where you got that from but after critics hear Bruce play those songs in that setting and take them back to yesteryear they and going to PERCEIVE and write that it's the best Halftime performance.

To me it's Prince hands down. I'm saying the example of how things are perceived vs. how they really are in the media.

I agree. I hope he plays it safe and does "Dancing in the Dark" and "Born In The USA" (even though it's not one of my favourites, it'd be right for the occasion). Of course, Barack Obama has been using "The Rising" as his campaign song, and by the time of the Superbowl, he'll probably be President, so I don't think Bruce'll be able to resist doing it, which is a shame as I think it's overrated.

Not me. It makes me well up with tears every time I hear it or play it.

It was a powerful opener in '02, but I think the lyric's among his weaker work.

Bruce is a great choice.

I have to give credit to the Super Bowl committee. Ever since the "malfunction" with JJ and JT, they have enlisted the talent of real musicians and not a bunch of wannabee lip-syncers! Should be a great show, but not as great as Prince wink

It'll be a very different show from Prince. Bruce doesn't do production or choreography. It'll just be him and the band on a generic stage.

That's perfectly fine by me. I'm just happy I don't have to sit through pop stars wearing sexy outfits, but little talent.

nod Those muppets annoy the hell out of me. I always feel like I'm just watching a fancy dress party when they're on.

A predictable show....sad! He's the standard Superbowl Act, though. For years people said Madonna would be great but sadly, she would do the usual 3-4 song set that she has done in the past few years for massive benefit concerts.

Of anyone, Springsteen is the least likely to play a predictable set. I would bet the farm he'll play at least one brand-new song and - if McCain is elected - something political. He'll throw in a couple of hits to keep the casual fans and the network brass happy.

How many songs did Prince play, again?
