Mx Stevie Wonder experience (with some surprises) Hey, I just come from the SW concert in Munich...
It was as I expected it to be, with his greatest hits being played and a lot of insrumental sessions. We allready discussed that and the setlist in a topic, I wanted to say that sometimes I wished there woule have been more time planned for his hits and not so much for improvisations. He played Isn't She Lovely and I Just Called only halfway, but an extended versio of Innervisions. You can think of that the way you want. But as said before, in all respect to SWs and his musciansship talent, he should have played more of his hits! I was dissapointed may favorte, Ribbon In The Sky as well as Uptight and Lately were missing. Also, the sound was not so good. It was much too loud and sometimes you just couldn't hear the instruments because alltogether they were too noisey. But the positive things NOW: First, he did "People Make The World Go Round" on vocoder again. Also he sang two German songs "Muss i denn in's Städele hinaus" (Elvis covered it as Wooden Heart) and "Oh Tannenbaum" (famous xmas song) Stevie sang it in German and it was really cool and funny!!! Later he mocked the German accent before declaring that his harmonica was made by a German company. Suddenly the firmas presidents appeared on stage and gave Stevie a new harmonica, which he immediately teste - it sounded great. Aisha sang her song again. She makes a great jazz singer, I think. And.... he played "I Can't Help It" Just one minute of it, but BOY, was I amazed and shocked!!! The audience was pretty waful, but that's they way German are. I was in the second row and danced and sang from the beginning on. But right behind me where some old German who tried to stop me from dancinga dn singing because they couldn't see anything. That really pissed me off. I mean, if you sell 150 Euro for his concert you can't just sit there and do NOTHING! Not to mention I didn't let them stop me ^^ In fact I danced and sang so obviously that a few times I had eye contact with Aisha and another background singer. They are really nice and beautiful. They smiled at me and really seemed to be happy there was at least ONE who participated!!! During Isn't She Lovely I beckoned to Aisha and she did beckon back, but I got teh impression that she doesn't like to be seen as "Stevie Wonder's daughter". She seems to be on the ground and seems to consider the other singers as equal!!! One thing was really cool: At one point he said: "Those of you you think they could sing come to the stage. If you can't sing, don't come!" I went to, but only three were let in. Two guys sang over some instrumental and were quiote okay. They touched Stevie and sang "Stevie, I love you etc". But there was one woman who really caused for some anger. She came on stage hugged Stevie and than said: I'M sorry, but I can't sing! Stevie obviously was pissed off of that behaviour! That woman also took someone other who really wanted to sing his/her chance!! Well overall, though some too long instrumental sections and the missing of soem hits and the bad soudn it was fantastic. I have blisteres on my hands and danced myself sweaty. BTW, the most reactions brought Sir Duke, My Cherie Amour, I Just Called and Signed Sealed And Delivered.

Did he asked people to come on stage as well? because it was a cool thing! I hope he wasn't too pissed off of that lady.

For instance, during his last Japanese tour, a woman met Stevie at a after concert meet and greet and took his hand and placed it on her breast. Stevie gracefully pulled his hand back while maintaining his sense of humor.

Well, I've also been at the concert in Munich and I quite liked it!
In a way it was sad to see though, that the arena, like all of his german shows, was only 2/3 full (they had to cover the back part of the arena... even though he wouldn't have seen it anyway ), but then again, in a way I'm also happy, that people put their foot down, because tickets were quite expensive! Here are some pics: Yeah, that girl, who couldn't sing was kinda embarrasing... that crew person, who evicted her certainly seemed pissed... I don't think though Stevie was pissed! I mean, she took her chance to get close to him... can't really blame her! I kinda liked the instrumental sessions... especially "Spain"... the one song I kinda missed was "For your love"! I also like that the show was quite long... 2 and half hours... that's a rarity nowadays!

WOW! you were there too! Well, probably "pissed" is too heavy. He certainly was not MAD at her but I could see from his face that for one or two seconds he was pissed because teh girl was cheating!!
It was only 2/3 full??? Man, I couldn't see that at row 2 but that's bad!! I missed "Ribbon" and Lately.

Well, I couldn't see his face that much.. but judging from his body language, I don't think he was... maybe irritated for a moment! But the person who evicted her certainly seemed pissed off! I found it funny how quickly they whisked her off stage and out of the backstage area!
What you probably also couldn't see from your second row (I envy you ) place was that people actually were dancing and quite some people in the stands got up to dance... so the audience wasn't that awful! The sound was fine where I was... didn't find any fault with it! [Edited 9/28/08 13:33pm]

But as said before where I was people were sitting most of teh time or stood up for a minute and the went down! Probably it's because they got out of breath!

I went to Stevie's show here in Rotterdam on September 14th. I should add some pictures from the show, I'll be back with some. I especially loved when he did'"Knocks Me Off My Feet" from that show!!! Yay for live instrumentation, a real horn section. Much better than synths.
