d'angelo under the thumb of clive davis since d'angelo is now at j records under clive davis how will that influence what type of cd we are going to get from him?
will he even be allowed to record what he likes to record or will he be forced to deliver a cd that sounds like mainstream r&b which oh so sucks right now. and what about the look/image? will it be braids, afro, low cut or bald or something diff all together?

I see this more as a moneymaking venture for Clive & co. Oddly I feel that we probably won't get him tinkering with D'Angelo's musical formula...but what we WILL get, at least, is a "clean" (read, hard drugs free) D'angelo who is in a productive work setting that will foster output. Perhaps we as fans might actually get lucky from this...

D'Angelo Single Hits iTunes September 30, 2008 by Gail Mitchell Link D'Angelo has prefaced the spring 2009 release of his third album with a new buzz single. "I Found My Smile Again," a remake of the tune D'Angelo originally recorded for the 1996 "Space Jam" soundtrack, became available exclusively via iTunes on September 30. "The song is something that's very close to him," according to manager Lindsay Guion. Alluding to D'Angelo's problems stemming from a 2005 arrest for drunk driving and drug possession, Guion adds, "He's able to smile again and he's ready to connect [with fans]. He's coming back. And he looks great, by the way." The iTunes releases follows news of a Q-Tip song featuring D'Angelo, "I Believe," that was leaked online today. D'Angelo went into the studio with Q-Tip a couple of years ago to record the track. While the song is slated to appear on Q-Tip's own upcoming album, "The Renaissance" (Universal Motown, Nov. 4), Guion isn't sure yet if it will also be featured on D'Angelo's new album via J Records/RCA Music Group. Guion did confirm that D'Angelo is in a Los Angeles studio working on his album, collaborating with Raphael Saadiq, ?uestlove and Roy Hargrove, among others. D'Angelo has largely fallen off the musical map since 2000's "Voodoo," which has sold 1.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its single "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," hit No. 2 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart and No. 25 on the Hot 100.

I've always liked this track But I wouldn't call this a remake the music is a little diff but the vocals are the same as they were original. I like it but I hope it's not on the new cd. COME ON D, GIVE US A PHAT DOUBLE CD

Not a remake. It's the original version. The Space Jam version is a remix of the original.

Thank God. It is too long since we have heard his genius. Clive is the right one to guide this. Now if only Clive could get his mitts on Lauryn Hill, he'd be doin' something. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

lauryn ....now THERE'S a thought you know, old Clive still has a little bit of spark in him, if anybody can get these young guns off their self-indulgent depression modes it's probably him.... he may have lost Joplin and Nyro to their personal demons, but he does have 40 some years of dealing with emotional trainwrecks, seeing them through and turning them around. Carlos Santana,Patti Smith ,Dylan, Springsteen- his list is ad nauseum. He might be old as methuselem, but he still seems to have "that thing" that kanoodles an artist into getting clean, focusing, and giving output. Wrinkles and all, I'd still be pretty intrested to see what ole Clive can pull out of our generation of talented, tortured fuck-ups like Whitney, D, and yes, Lauryn

Well, according to his manager: LindsayGuion said: "The song is something that's very close to him," according to manager Lindsay Guion. At any rate, it's still a great song that hasn't been heard by enough people. I've always considered it to be one of my favorites by D. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

A little O/T, but how old is Clive anyway? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

82 I believe. I think he's a little younger, about 74. He's definitely had one hell of a track record, though. Dude's been getting things popping since Woodstock.

You could be right. I always keep thinking he was born in 1926 or something. I just looked, he was born in 1932, lol. So he's 76.

You know, I was thinking how today's artists are really indulged for bad behavior by label heads. It seems suits from Davis' era knew how to kick folks in the butt and get them in the studio, and just tell them "put the wacky dust down, this is your career and it's time to go to work".
