I think you need to give Nathan a good kick in the butt if you want him to review your mix. Herman never reviewed it? I'm shocked. Seriously, don't even remind me! I thought Hermy would have gotten to it sooner but alas he did not. I'm gonna get that review of his posted come hell or highwater! That's why I put the placeholders so someone could orgnote their review to me and I could edit those placeholder posts and slip it in there 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Just finished reading your liner notes!
Heheheh. Yours just slipped through. To elaborate; I have been sick for three months now and did not have the attention span every time to commit to listening to tapes and writing a review. Nothing personal. In a lot of ways, we are very alike in out musical choices; the fact that you are one of the few Americans to ‘get’ Nina Hagen says enough; we like drama, stuff that drives itself as deep into our souls as the deepness of the way we live our lives. We channel through music; demons, love, worship, hate and loads more. Sometimes at the same time. Of an artist’s album, you know which song to ‘pique’ my interests; engaging vocals, rousing music or something small; quiet sounds that draw you in as deep as the rousing song. In that respect even the songs you picked of artists that ‘do not work for me much’ fit inside of this compilation. For instance; Maria McKee’s voice, song writing or music does not appeal to me much, but I do not feel the need to skip the song; it is just right. I might even keep the song on my playlists. Then. Spacing. The way you string these song together is as important as the songs themselves, isn’t it? I also recognize that, my mind clicks that way also and that is another reason why I relate so well to this playlist. It tells the story of your liner notes, but without using words. The entire set STANDS, at least to my precise ears. The songs. Some artists I know and cannot ‘do’ anything more with beyond this tape (aforementioned McKee) or I know and utterly love, like Donaghy, NdegéOcello and Davenport. I have most stuff of these three artists. And I have some by peeps like Morcheeba, which I like enough, but do not go utterly nutty over them. Of course, as always, I zone in on the artists that leave a great impression and that taste like more. Of these, Liberty City (Murk), Mechanical Forces of Love and Lowpass, I need to hear more, as I never heard any other of their stuff. I have heard stuff of Alice Smith and Alice Russell, but like with the other three in this corner; I need to get more of their stuff. And I think that is the best score of all the mixes I have listened to; most other made me wanna check out one or two artists, at most. So to me, this mix is more of a starting point. Your liner notes are extensive, just as I expected. I loved the back up of what all these songs mean to you. And lyrics and pictures too; amazing, all the work that went into this thread. Like I said earlier; the content and flow of the lyrics and emotions of the songs and the order you placed them in, together with the liner notes tell me a story of someone who, like me, will always be looking. And I hope the next mixtape will not include boyfriends or relationships, as I think that the true strength you want, crave and looking for is inside of yourself. And the amount you need can only be found inside of the borders of the soul we all know to be deep. You just need to find out where to get it, but the last few songs show that is exactly where you are going. And even though N’dea speaks of a new phase, just remember all that took you there, even the heartache. It’s not a prize that’s to be earned, just a ‘peace of mind’ you need to re-acquaint yourself with. At the end of this tape it is just nice to know there is someone that ‘feels’ music as I do, so keep playing, keep experiencing and keep making mixtapes!
