Ne-Yo about his work with Jackson

Ne-Yo told "The Mirror" Mj told him and the other songwriters Jacko his sein comeback-album has to become better than "Thriller": "Michael's new album has to become incredible. I allready sent him soem songs, but we've no idea when the CD will be released."

Not that shit again. MJ will NEVER learn. He spents his whole life trying to beat Thriller. But the truth is, the more he keeps it back, the less it will sell.

Michael Jackson wants comeback album to beat Thriller

By 3am 24/09/2008
Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson is so desperate for his comeback album to be a success that he's given his songwriters an ultimatum - make it better than Thriller or forget it.

Hit-maker Neyo, who is on Wacko's select team, told us before his show-stopping Year Of Gentleman-themed gig at Hammersmith Apollo: "Michael's new album has to be amazing. I've already submitted some songs but we have no idea when it's coming out. He keeps putting it off.

"Michael is very nervous as he knows he's the underdog and people want him to fail.

"It's tough when all eyes are on him and there is so much young competition out there.

"This album needs to be better than Thriller. He wants killer melodies."

Neyo, who has written chart-toppers for the likes of Beyonce and Rihanna, admits he was terrified when he first met Jacko face to face.

"My hands were shaking like never before. But the great thing is that I get to work with my idol and he is really cool."

i dont believe that he actually compares this work to thriller . better then thriller or forget it? then forget it . sorry mike

I think I said something about "Thriller" being a gift and a curse for Michael. Sure it helped his career tremendously 'cause he worked hard to get there but once you make that album a need to do something even better then you're not sure how you're gonna take your career. I'm sure he was probably ambitious in trying to break the record, no problem, but at this point, it's impossible.

I'm thinking the reason Sony told him he did 100 mill of "Thriller" was to stop him from chasing it, they forget Mike was rumored to wanna top 100 million of "Bad", lol.

I'm not a sales freak, lol, but MJ shouldn't even have to worry about sales at this stage in his career and life.

I still don't believe Thriller has sold 100 mio items. Is this an official number by an independent institute or is that what Sony says???

As far as I know, in 2001 Thriller was said to have sold between 50-60 Mio records. No way within 5 years Thriller has sold anothe r40 mio. If it would be true, it would have been EVERYWHERE and PERMANENTLY on the charts.

The Guinness World Records first put that out there that "Thriller" sold 104 million worldwide. Then after the whole WMA "debacle", Guinness released their 2007 edition and "Thriller" sold 55 million, lol. Then in 2008, it reportedly was 65 million, according to the BBC, lol.

"But Michael's management said it has sold an estimated 100 million..."

Prince ain't ever gonna do that, dig? wink

That's why I love him.

I'm inclined to believe that he just wants the album to be perfect for him (MJ) but he feels it probably won't match up to his other albums. I don't believe he's nervous though. This is the Mirror we're talking about, they can make anything "negative" and while what Ne-Yo says is not negative, I don't like that anyone should have to chase another album. You know how people would wanna believe he is chasing the ghost of "Thriller" 26 years later, you heard the comments, lol.

You know how hard that is to do?

In order to do an album like "Purple Rain" or "Thriller" you have to really take yourself back to that point in your life when things just fell into place. Once you make magic once, it's hard to get it back.

he should just try to concentrate on making great songs. It's very unrealistic to speculate that his new album could even come close to Thriller, sales and quality wise.

You're right about Prince. I'm not sure Prince even cares anymore, when it comes to making great albums.

But with MJ, all great people are in competetion with themselves. Michael Jordan was always trying to top himself. Tiger Woods is never satisfied. I'm actually glad to hear this news of MJ wanting an album better than Thriller. Chances are he will never top Thriller. But at least I know he is hungry again.
As creative as MJ is, imagine if he decided to buckle down and try to kill it. He might make an amazing album. cool

I am just reading this "news" thinking "yeah, whatever".

Mike, I miss you so badly, but just do as you wanna do.

I am not sure if MIke wants to top Thriller or not, but I think he does want it to be perfect. He has said many times he´s perfecionist. I am leaving everything up to MJ without trying to bitch about things. I trust in his abilities. He knows better than me what to do.

It is interesting that people say that he´s ridiculous for wanting it to be perfect because reading all the comments on the org about Invincible, for instance, if that record is not gonna be just PERFECT and will be just average, you bet that he´s gonna get slapped for that. People will say, he´s done, he´s lost it. Some already say that now even though he´s had only one album that has not been a worldwide bomb as his previous albums and even that is enough for some people say, he´s done. He can´t afford to have two albums like that. Prince can get away with it and people will say that he´s still the greatest musician, but dare not Mike release an average album. He´d be dead as some people already treat him.

Mike just do your thing. Don´t bother what anyone says.

Oh yea, you're right about that. mJ & Prince was out to Prove themselves at that point in there career. I really believe it takes a certain amount of "hunger" & "I'll show these muthafu..'' to make those type of albums. Prince is too busy performing for the "In Crowd" to have that hunger again. lol

That's why "Thriller" has created a stigma. People are gonna automatically believe he can't do it again. I'm sure he's determined tho, lol.

Well, yeah it has, but the problem is not Michael´s in this case. He may be trying to do his best and I am sure he´s always been, but people should realize that they should be glad for the greatest things whatever they are and do not automatically expect them to happen again and belittle those who created those unbelievable things as if they failed when they do not manage to top themselves everytime, cuase it does not mean that that person has gotten worse at whatever they do, but poeple just won´t do that. They love to hate too much and especially those bigger than themselves.

Allnall

The problem is simply the fact that Michael insists on creating an album that is practically written by everyone else except himself....I would find it hard to consider that a true Jackson album, no matter how many albums it sells.....

He can delude himself with the fact that it sells xxxx many copies, but if he is farming himself out to any and everyone, it is hard to give him any artistic credit for the success if all he does is sing someone else's songs....no matter how catchy they may be.
