Timbaland pushed Pharrell to do more songs with Madonna

In an interview by Blackfile Pharrell talks about how Timbaland pushed him to do more then one record for Madonna. “Timbaland was pushing me, he was like ‘I like that one song you did’ and I was like yeah? And he was like ‘u gotta hear the album I did almost the whole thing’ and I was like Yeah?! Then Madonna kept teasing like ‘Tim Got More Sooongs Then You, Tim Got More Songs Then You’ and I was like.. Okay u aint gonna like me when I start turning green.. ”

http://www.youtube.com/wa...rg/page/2/

My newest theory is that Madonna and PW did Candy Shop together (their first song) and probably the eraly Beat Goes On version.

Than Timbaland came in and they must have written many songs including Devil Wouldn't Reckognize, Voices, Miles Away and 4 Minutes (and probably Across The Sky) in April so he mocked PW, who started working on some demos for Madonna, Heartbeat, Spanish Lesson and Ring My Bell.

In the second half of their working relationship Madonna worked on a few more other songs with Timbaland, and PW might have come up with She's Not Me, Give It 2 Me and the new Beat Goes On version and probably some others.

So in the end PW had one more song on the album than Timbaland. And I like Pharrell's songs much more than Timbalands!!

AGAIN, it would be soo cool to have some more songs from that album!!

When Madonna works with multiple producers on an album, she likes to make it seem like a friendly competition lol She wants them to compete with each other. She'll tell one producer "Check out this amazing song that I recorded with this person!".She does this to make sure that she gets some strong material from everybody. And she's not afraid to pick favorites, despite the fact that some feelings may get hurt.During the recording of 'Music',William Orbit submitted several tunes that weren't used.In the end,she used mostly songs recorded with Mirwais. The same thing happened with 'Hard Candy'.Timbaland came up with 10 songs but Madonna was more impressed with the Pharrell songs.

That's correct."Candy Shop" and the early version of "Beat Goes On" were the first tracks recorded for the album. She and Pharrell recorded these songs in early 2007 (probably January and February).

Then Timbaland came in and they must have written many songs including Devil Wouldn't Recognize, Voices, Miles Away and 4 Minutes (and probably Across The Sky) in April

When Madonna entered the studio with Timbaland and Justin, she brought along some rough sketches of songs that she had already written: "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" and "Voices".She wrote "Miles Away" with Justin and that was the first song that was recorded during these sessions.

so he mocked PW, who started working on some demos for Madonna, Heartbeat, Spanish Lesson and Ring My Bell.

Did you know that "Incredible" was the final song added to the album?

I like Pharrell's songs much more than Timbaland!!

Me too.I think his songs are a perfect fit for Madonna. They're retro-sounding and reminscent of her 80s work."Give It To Me",in particular, sounds just like a long-lost outtake from 'Like A Virgin'."Heartbeat","She's Not Me" and "Beat Goes On" sound like 80s Madonna songs with a slightly modern/urban twist.

However,my favorite song on the album is "Miles Away",one of the Timbaland tracks! lol

AGAIN, it would be soo cool to have some more songs from that album!!

Warners is preparing the Greatest Hits CD.They should use one or two of the unreleased 'Hard Candy' tracks. It would be a shame to let those songs go to waste.

Do you remember in spring 2007 when we heard rumors about the tracks that were recorded for the album? Remember these titles?

Sleep Deprivation
Turn It Up
Going Down
Little Thang (with Justin Timberlake)
It's The Beat (early version of "Beat Goes On")
Tight Fit
Black
Off The Hook (featuring Timbaland)
Candy Store
Eleven Minutes (an early version of "4 Minutes"?)
Do I Care
Freelancer.34 (an unfinished instrumental interlude)
U N'Me
Starlight
Hit It Hard
Got This Down Right

I don't know how many of these song titles are real. It's rumored that "Off The Hook" is one of two songs that Timbaland may use on his own upcoming album ("La La" is the other one).

Don't forget that Hey You is a pharrell production. It was a reworking of Keep the trance.

Haha, SoulAlive I can see you and me are the only ones who actually love HC and are hoping for some leaks or b-sides.

You're so righT! I forgot about Incredible. I didn't know it was the last song. From where do you know??

okay, Off The Hook I don't believe this. In an interview Timbaland said his songs with M were "off the chain". I think this is where that rumour's coming from!!

The rest seems really fake to me. Especially 11 Minutes. From what both, Madonna and JT, told the song was obviously called 4 Minutes from the beginning!

yeah, she always was doing that. I think the first time on the True Blue album!! The first song M wrote with Pat Leonard was "Love Makes The World Go Round" in 1985. I bet Steve Bray was pissed when another songwriter came in, haha!!
Especially if you think how many Steve Bray songs had been left out (Pipeline, Each Time You Break My Heart, Spotlight, Working My Fingers To The Bones)

More intersting it was on Like A Prayer, where Steve only got TWO song!! (I admit I love both!!)
I'd die to hear the two known Steve Bray outtakes "First Is A Kiss" and ... how's teh other one called??
Madonna MUST have prefered writing with Pat Leonard in this stage of her career.
Think of "Possessive Love" and "Just A Dream". Add this to the other songs with pat from LAP and who you got a whole album.

Then of course she chose to work with PAT for Dick Tracy...

Poor Steve Bray did not even get "Get Over" on the best of. Imagien how much money he DIDN't make with that song, haha!!

But actually, most Steve Bray songs have the same chord change (In Into The Groove, Causing A Commotion, Over And Over and Keep It Together) and other migt as well.

BTW, I think "Ring My Bell" was written before She's Not Me. Both have the same chords...

From the PW demo-snippet of "Ring My Bell" it's not clear yet whether or not his song was called RMB as well (I still hope the guy who leaked the clips will give us the full demos at some point), but Madonna probably talked with Pharrell about the disco song with the same name (which has *surprise, surpirse* the same chord change!!!) and how much she liked it.

Then I imagine Pharrell re-worked Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" to She's Not Me, which is soooo inspired by the Anita Ward song!

Interesting story, no?

She's not me is the best song prince never produced imo.

Personnally I think Ring my bell is b-side material. While Spanish lesson is very good song, even tough all the fans hate it, I truly like it.

I think Hard Candy would have worked better as an album if they used the Promo tour mix of Candy Shop, deleted 4 minutes out of the tracklist and had the orchestral version of Voices in it

I can't recall where I read it,but "Incredible" is said to be a last-minute addition to the album. It was recorded in the final phase of production (sometime after September 2007).

Yeah,"11 Minutes" sounds like a fake title....

we only got 11 minutes to save the world! lol

I agree with you about "Ring My Bell".That song is B-side material and I think it was the right decision to leave it off the album."Spanish Lesson",I don't like.I like the idea of Madonna doing a latin dance track, but I wish she had done it right.

There's a rumor that in 1995,Prince and Madonna recorded two more duets together:

"Mad" and "Funk Of A Thousand Years"

I'm assuming that this rumor is fake, since those songs have never leaked.

By Alien Means was not recorded with Madonna.

Well, you both (Mike and David) have intersting thoughts.

I admit I really like Voices. When we first heard the snippets I thoght it was the weakest song along with Incredible (the snippet only was 30 sec of the first half!). Voices has his own charm I think.

I totally dislike Spanish Lesson. I like Ring My Bell more though I agree, it was born to be a b-side.

Since I like fast and funky songs I'm with David and wished he would have used more fast Timbaland tracks. Although I'm sure they're not as good as we wished, haha!!!

I gotta dmit I'm a bit disapointed by Dance 2Nite. I consider the verse melody weak. The chorus is great though, reminds me of Shalamar or Delegation.
