song appreciation: Buddy Holly's Dearest

I'm in love. Seriously.

Though I'm not overly proud to say I'd never heard this track until I'd bought the Juno soundtrack, it is lovely.

Time travel needs to be invented NOW so I can go back in time and personally thank Buddy for having written and recorded this song.

You cannot know everything; I love soundtracks like Juno's for being all ove rthe place and having a certain kind of musical education function, next to the entertainment part of it.

It's still not cool to geek out over a song to your friends then have to admit you heard it on a movie soundtrack.

You're right though. Soundtracks like Juno's are a pretty good place to introduce yourslef to new genres or artists.

If I wanna break in a new genre, I often hunt down compilations of a certain decade/record label/soundtracks.

For instance, The Color Purple soundtrack introduced me to jook joint jazz, which I now love to bits. No shame in admitting you're open to things.

nod

One of my best and still favourite intros to music from the 1950's was this homemade mix collection I bought at a garage sale titled simply "1958". Whoever made it put a lot of thought into this compilation. It's excellent.
