tracks with bad samples which have perverted the original music. I understand genres change and music changes. But do you really think music has changed for the better?. I dont thinl so there is a level for samples and a line has to be crossed.

Hell naw. That's the shit hop style of remaking songs which is using the actual music from the old song as the background music for the remake. The finished product is usually an embarassment to the original.
When it comes to remakes, the best I've heard are songs that are totally remade from the ground up with harder kick ass instruments that make the asses shake. Jams like..... Knock On Wood - Amii Stewart Heard It Through The Grapevine - Roger I Feel For You - Chaka Khan Andy is a four letter word.

I thought the Rose Royce remakes of
"I'm Going Down"//Mary J. Blige & "Love Don't Live Here Anymore"//Faith Evans & Mary J. Blige were pretty damn good vocally & musically Chucky Thompson is a beast word up because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

thats what im saying, jake likes these songs that are comming out with bits of old music in them, i am trying to show him the great music that started the stuff that is out now. we have an ongoing debate in our house as to which ones are better of course we know the difference, he doesnt know yet. i am stuck, as a single mom with the music/sex/girls/do your homework discussion.... i am trying to show him that the classics are far better to know - not so much TODAY mind you - but in the future. you understand what im saying, right? now damn it, i know you know what im talking about - what are the songs man? you know music, help me out!! A group called Intro redid Stevie's "Ribbon In The Sky" back in '92 or '93 and it was impressive. Not as good as the original, mind you, but it was an impressive cover.
On the other hand, Black Box's remake of Earth, Wind & Fire's Fantasy should have landed them in jail for felonious assault on an all time great song.

I thought Profyle (a group formerly signed to Motown) did a great job with Stevie's "Overjoyed" and David Young (Mary J. Blige's artist) did a nice version of "Rocket Love" recently you guys should check that out check youtube... uh... back in the 90's Jesse Powell did a VERY NICE rendition of "Gloria" (not sure who sang the original) I picked ones that come this close [] to the original without jacking, if you can dig where I'm coming from [Edited 9/30/08 12:33pm] because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

I usually prefer the original versions of any song, but I do like some of the covers that Rod Stewart has done over the years. He's done a pretty good job of some Sam Cooke tunes as well as Otis.
