Well, she followed Jermaine into Island in the first place, so it's hardly a surprise she's following him out of there too. Janet's always been led by men.

wow, hadn't thought of it that way. I wouldn't let that happen to my career. She should really get her some backbone. How tall is she anyway?

Janet looks just fine. She's had an amazing run, and at least she continues to make her music and tours fun....

Its just hard to stay on top forever in pop music... Perhaps she can venture out into other more accepting genres...

Janet is definitely an awesome performer, perhaps she can pull a Prince, and focus more on her live appearances....

I'm still sad she's not charting well like before, it's not like her music is totally off from what mainstream is listening to. Feedback and Rock With You should have been on top like other similar music, no excuses. I remember a lot of people like Feedback but there were so many delays with the promo or it would have made a strong impact early during it's release.

At this point in her career, she should be owning her masters anyway. If she does a distribution deal from now own, she'll be more profitable.

well its the same shit that peeps did last year with Britney during "Gimme More" at first they said she wasnt up to par, but then they got personal and said she looked fat, i was like that was the finest Britney ever looked, she needs to keep her dancers physique, thick thighs, great legs etc..im tired of this lame ass media calling "thick" girls FAT, theres a huge difference.

You guys are nuts! Janet is not the normal weight for someone her age and height. She is SMALLER than most 40 (something) year old 5'3" to 5'4" women. She looks damn good in comparison.
I hope like hell she doesn't decide to f*ck with Interscope. Jimmy Iovine and them are a bunch of crooks and they will NEVER do a good job with someone like Janet. They will have her doing duets with 50 Cent - that would just drag her down even further. At this point, she should just do the indie thing and distribute online through her own site and do distribution deals ONLY. Any label would do a distribution deal with her.

Oh please Madonna is shaped like a man. Even men are comparing Madonna's body to Tom Petty. neutral

Nothing wrong with Janet's weight. Those awful outfits would look horrible on anybody.

Janet's rep confirms that she has left Island Def Jam

A rep for Janet released a statement to People Magazine today confirming that she has indeed terminated her relationship with Island Def Jam:

"At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship," the singer's rep said in a statement to PEOPLE. "Now more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album, Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system."

A rep for Island Records had no comment.

You can complain about the Superbowl incident but from what I've read and seen it's people's insecurities about a black woman's sexuality, not necessarily the black woman herself.

It's comments like that which is reason why we have so many black girls have colorism issues and weight gain/lost problems b/c they don't act or look like the ideal conservative (yet a freak in the covers for men) and preferably light skin black woman (no offense to light skin women b/c you do get a lot of grief). listen, I'm Jewish and my ancestors had a horrible life in the Third Reich. In the 1980s my parents went to Germany again and now I live here in this supposed Nazi country.

It#s always easy to take everything personal or shouting "you say something negative about me , so you're a racist".

I RARELY do this because it shows one thing: You think in a racist way. In my case it didn't occur to me Janet is black. I didn't think of her fuckin skin colour. I just THINK SHE's TOO CHUBBY. I would say that about a white woman as well.

I don't even say fat because she's not fat.

Seems like your perception of size may be tainted by media brainwashing. The average woman in the U.S. is about a size 14 or so. Granted, on a worldwide scale, you could say that American women in general are "bigger" than many others. With that in mind, statistically, Janet is SMALLER than average so what you call "chubby" is not a realistic assessment of proportion for a woman Janet's height/weight/age. The media has bombarded people with images of people who are smaller than normal and has successfully passed it off as "the norm". Its done to sell products. Women especially, won't buy beauty products and diet pills if they think they are "normal". Its a sales pitch. Most people who live here in the States and have a television have fell for it.

I hope so too. I would really like to see her work a deal like Prince has done with Sony. I think PE and Musicology were promoted pretty well (especially Musicology). Besides, she'll still get the presence of a major label while still maintaining non-stellar record sales.

I hope she strikes a deal with a company like Live Nation or something like that. Janet is legendary, and hopefully she isn't pressured to make a cd to appeal to the masses, but create something different and innovative. If she listens to her gut feelings, and leave her "dick" out of her career, I have no doubt she can still keep it hot. I can't wait to see her at MSG. I heard that she is FINALLY performing pre "Control" songs, and as an old Janet fan, that will be a treat.

If Janet goes to LiveNation, she will have to commit to alot of touring.I really don't think that she wants to work that hard. Her latest tour is only her 2nd tour in this decade.By comparison,Madonna is on her 4th tour in this decade,so her LiveNation deal makes alot of sense.

Or even better, Janet should do a Kylie and only make new music (dance-pop of course) to promote in Europe, a place where dance music still rules!

There is nothing that Janet can do for USA at this point while it's stuck with hip-hop, contemporary country, & Disney-pop.

I like Janet, but it's time for her to mix things up a bit. Specifically, she has to change her singing style. Remember when Mariah Carey changed her style earlier this decade. People were getting tired of hearing Mariah do her high octave songbird pitch EVERY song. All her songs were becoming too similar. She had to change. Now she doesn't try to overwhelm the listener with her vocal range on each song. In the case of Janet, I think that people are tired of the low voice whispering on so many of her songs. Mariah had to tone it down, now Janet has to tone it UP.
