Could poor sales be what made Janet sick? Could poor sales be what made Janet sick?
Two more shows in Boston and Philadelphia have been cancelled since Janet Jackson missed a Montreal tour date because of a reported illness. Chatter from both the Web and the streets has it that “Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty” is scratching appearances because she’s already performed to plenty of empty arena seats and has been losing cash from poor ticket sales. A Michigan show has been re-scheduled. There’s even speculation that the Montreal cancellation was a stunt Jackson pulled less than an hour before showtime, rather than a true health concern - which, if true, may explain her man Jermaine Dupri’s high-profile partying the same night that she was hospitalized.

if true this is saddening...janet should be able to sell out arenas... RIP 1958-2016 Prince RIP 1947-2016 David Bowie

I didn't know she missed a show in Montreal. There was a time when I wouldn't blink to catch her Montreal or Toronto. I would be hot if I had tickets and she cancelled.
Maybe she should have done smaller arenas this time around? Changed up the setting? But I guess this tour is more suited for stadiums. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I think her tour is selling as well as any other..... LOVE HARD.

Not sure how the tour is doing elsewhere, but I live in a major area and she only played one show here.Typically,an artist of her stature would play at least two shows here (Madonna and Tina Turner both have two shows scheduled).
I guess Janet will eventually schedule a second show for a later date?

Yeah,I heard about Jermaine out at some club, partying while his lady was hospitalized Shows you how loyal he is,huh?

Were Boston and Philly really cancelled,or just rescheduled for another date?

Honestly, I don't know how her dshows are doing in the grand scheme of shows but I was surprised there weren't more NYC shows but I also attributed that to there being practically no free space left at the venue during this time.
I've contemplated catching shows in different cities to meet up with friends and there's always a nice pick of seats to choose from but I don't know what that means. I don't see that anyone is sold out, there just aren't best seats available. [Edited 10/3/08 5:39am] Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

This doesn't have to be a disaster for Janet. She could simply scale back, get a "hot" opening act which would help sell tickets, and play smaller venues.

I love smaller venues but big acts rarely do them. I can't see it happening. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Like I was in 2001 for the All For You tour? Did she have problems selling tickets on the All For You tour as well? “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

At a hundred dollars a ticket? Look at the economy. People have to put food on the table and take care of their children if that be the case. Paying a hundred dollars just to see janet. I couldn't believe folks were shelling out that kind of money for beyonce. [Edited 10/3/08 10:02am] Don't laugh at my funk

The economy is hurting everyone. Although I was able to score tickets to both Madonna and Janet concerts, nether almost happened. As a big fan of both artist, I am usually the type to buy tickets the day they go on sale (presale for Janet Jackson), but I had to wait weeks after both shows wnt on sale to purchase tickets because financial times are hard (way before Wall ST. collapsed). I am accustomed to always buying higher end seats for artist I really like, but I couldn't afford it and had to scale back. No concert is selling out at this time the way they used too. Madonna tix are STILL available at MSG. If an artist like Janet or Madonna cannot sell out quickly in a stronghold like NYC, there is a major problem. People need to survive, and concerts are no longer a priority for fans, but a luxury. "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna

We are ><. My Madonna seats are nosebleeds and I'm only seeing Janet once this time. Gone are the days of running from show to show. I am big on personal finance so I constantly watch how I spend my discretionary income and it just never made sense to shell out like that with all that's going on. I did note that Madge only has skyscraper seats left but you can get in the 100s for Janet. Don't know what that's about but [Edited 10/3/08 10:34am] Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I said that she wasn't ill in a post a few days ago, and some sad sods shot me down for it. She's so desperate, she's pathetic. No doubt she'll be getting her flaps out again soon for "paparazzi" shots.

That's really a lot of speculation, and not fair to Janet.

Enough with this bullshit. They had set up the stage in Montreal and people had planted their asses in their seats when it was cancelled. Yeah, she cancelled because of poor ticket sales - that's why she traveled to Montreal, set up her stage, got her ass all made up, made sure the Bell Centre had its staff on duty, and let the fans into the arena. Makes a lot of sense.
Something happened in the hours leading up to the show, and I'm willing to bet it was an injury. She has postponed or cancelled shows due to illness or injury on ALL of her tours - was she having trouble with ticket sales then, too? Shows have been POSTPONED, not cancelled - they are in the process of being rescheduled. Anyway, she has been doing about 10k and grossing about $1 million/show. I don't think she's hurting. Attendance and grosses like that are not something you cancel a show over, certainly not in the last 30 minutes. [Edited 10/3/08 16:26pm]

I'm fairly certain she had problems selling out shows on that tour. It was Janet fans on this site who I heard that from. I also recall she cancelled shows here in Europe on the same tour because of terrorism fears after 9/11, which at the time I thought was just spineless. But now that I remember how big a flop that album was in this part of the world, I'm wondering if there might have been other reasons for those cancelations too. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Punks. ----- Go ahead dude shoot everyone down for stating the obvious. Janet has a history of doing this crap. My guess is she is losing money at these big venues and since she hardly ever tours she can only afford so much of a lost. In addition, the economy is in the toilet people just do not have the cash and artist need to lower their prices.

That's classic.
All it is is simple guesses, nobody knows anything and most of you assume the worst. All it is is pure speculation. The fact is nobody here knows anything about her current condition. Keep it moving now. [Edited 10/6/08 7:52am]

Correct me if I am wrong...but doesn't a promotional money put up all the capital? I assumed the artist negotiated a base rate with increases based on ticket sales. If that's the case then it would be in Janet's best interest to perform in as many shows as possible. 1 over Jordan...the greatest since

as I have said in past vertigo is not something that goes away quickly-im sure that when the doctor clears her and she no longer feels like her world is spinning while she busts a move on stage- she'll be back and ready to boogy- if not she'll just look crazy missing choreography and fallin' off the stage.... LOVE HARD.
