Placebo? Erin McKeown?

I heard a cut by Placebo on a local college radio, and liked it alot..to me it sounded 80'ish new wave....I'm thinking it was Every you, every me...
do you know anything about this group?

Then they played a jazzy number by Erin McKeown....know anything about her?

bulk of it is absolutely great.

Don't know much about them other than they're really very good (imo). A friend put together a compilation of various placebo songs for me, sadly with no track names or anything so I don't even know that much. 'Every you, every me' (which the internet tells me is the name of the song) is one of them. Great track.

Another brilliant track (a quick lyric search tells me) is called 'Pure Morning'.
And I can tell you that their cover of 'Running Up That Hill' is sublime.

I really must investigate these guys further - their music is excellent.

So where should one start? Any particular album that's a must have, or just start at the beginning ?

I have to admit Placebo has some really good pop / rock songs, but there's a whole lot of seriouslly average dross on their albums as well. A lot.

well they don't have that many albums yet so if you're just
downloading from some torrent i'd say get them all.

if you plan to buy in the store i'd go for "withouth you i'm
nothing" and "sleeping with ghosts" first. that's a pretty
good balance between old/new placebo.

or get their "once more with feelings" collection, that's a
pretty good introduction to their singles and the overall
feel of the albums they come from.

I'd never heard of Placebo, until I was looking up Prince vids, and found THIS

I absolutely LOVE this song, on so many different levels... I need to check out more of their stuff, I don't know if I like them as a band or just this song but this really gets to me! cool

LOVE his voice!

But is it all-original seriously-average dross? hmmm

Sleeping with Ghosts was pretty good on the overall, I'd say it's the strongest of the albums. Though if you want some more positive feedback to this thread, the drummer of the band (can't remember his name though) is a great rock drummer. Very few British bands have that part covered as well as Placebo.

Trickology

Erin Mckeown is fantastic. I have heard her "We Will Become Like Birds"
And that album was produced or engineered by Tucker Martine, and it's real ethereal and atmospheric. I believe it was recorded in New Orleans before Katrina? Impressive musician/songwriter and vocalist. She has recorded 5 solo albums.

check out her site:

Oh, apparently the guy (Steve Hewitt) has left the band last year. Well, anyway. He was good.
