Does she do anything original, or just rip off other artists such as the Clash (Straight to hell) or the Modern Lovers (Roadrunner, MIA's "Bamboo Banga)?

She got original tracks. Diplo made "Paper Planes" by the way. I think it's an example of making something new out of a sample. Really it's just those chords, nothing else.

I love it. Nice to see. Weird that it is in the top 5 after being LAST summer's fave, and weird that a song sampling it is in the adjacent chart position.

I love it. It gives me a false sense of hope for mainstream radio, but hope nonetheless.

Yeah, you're probably right. I guess it was like seeing Bjork's "Bachelorette" premiered on TRL. Totally out of place.

Paper Planes charted first, and by coincidence it was used to make the T.I. song, whose album isn't even out for another ten days.

Ottensen

Okay, that's it:

I need someone to explain to me NOW what is the M.I.A. factor...

Try as I might, her recordings don't stick to me even after all this time. She actually irritates the hell out of me neutral

For those who "get" M.I.A., can you please explain what is not registering with me? She's praised to high hell amongst indies, but I don't understand the appeal. HELP.

This is a serious question ( mad note the presence of poo-poo face here mad )

It's just her unique voice and VERY hooky songs. Some people find her annoying.. if that's the case then, nothing to see here.
