Kate Bush Lovers...

I bought Aerial the day it came out, and enjoyed perhaps a track or two and rarely listened to it...i just reloaded it to my ipod today....

whats the concensus here on that album? any high points that i may have missed?

also...

I have barely even touched "the Sensual World" or "Lionheart" or "The Dreaming"

sometimes it's just not time for you to "get it" and i know Kate well enough to know that she is worth many re-listens, just curious to see what you guys have to say on the matter and what songs in particular you think i should go back and listen to

"aerial" and "sensual world" are great...i still haven't really cracked "lionheart" or "the dreaming" myself.

with "aerial", it's good to listen to it on headphones the first few times, because i think all the songs are very interconnected and it's almost like reading a novel. once you get the continuity of the whole album, i think it's easier to enjoy the songs on their own.

"sensual world" is more like a traditional collection of songs. it's one of those albums that make good background music, then after a while you realize you want to listen to it in the foreground.

this is interesting...

i realize i have to do the headphone thing with some albums (i'm doing it with aerial right now) ...i kinda have to force myself not to jump to another song or artist even, simply because i can....

and i swore the sensual world was gonna "grab me" like Never forever did...especially since this woman's work was "concieved" during this same period (or so i assume)..but besides that...heads we're dancing, between a man and woman...it didnt really demand i come back to it...even tho a skim through assured me it was the same kate i loved in other albums..and i was overlooking good material...

and i can only recall one song from the dreaming, and nothing from lionheart for whatever reason..but i've listened to enough kate albums to know there is a hidden beauty there which i havent noticed yet...

bertie and mrs bartzolini (or however you spell it) were what sold me on aerial...especially the latter

The general consensus on the org when Aerial was released was that it was awesome. It made many year-end top ten lists. In fact, it was my number one album that year. And being a Tori Amos fan, I didn't make that decision lightly. It's extremely lush, ethereal and dreamy, but don't most Kate albums have those qualities?

Looking at the ratings I gave the tracks in iTunes, the following got five stars:

King Of The Mountain
Pi
Joanni
A Sky of Honey: Prologue
An Architect's Dream
Sunset
Somewhere In Between

The Sensual World is a fantastic album as well. That was the first Kate disc I ever bought.

It was the only single from the album so one could assume it was the track with most appeal.

It's interesting that The Red Shoes got two votes for best Kate album. I always thought that was regarded as one of her worst.

Honestly I never heard it. The few songs I did hear, weren't so hot and they scared me away.

No, the singles "Rubberband Girl" and "Eat The Music". I think I heard the Prince song too.

i wouldn't say it's her worst but i think it runs hot and cold...though i bet different people would likely disagree on what the best and worst tracks are from that album.

I had overlooked How to be Invisible for a while ~ now I love it. The lyrics are disturbing but so intriguing
Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran
