Jenny Lewis: "Acid Tongue" No surprise, but Jenny Lewis's second solo album is the best album of the year. One thing I love about her is how much she varies her sound, whether its with Rilo Kiley or in her solo career. This one is nothing like the mellow, acoustic Rabbit Fur Coat--instead is has a bluesy swagger that's almost like Violent Femmes in places. And as always, the lyrics are brilliant--she could easily have a second career as a short story writer.
Here's the title track (which is actually a gorgeous acoustic track...you just have to get through the goofy intro): [Edited 9/15/08 13:38pm]

That was great. I read that the style of her new album is southern gothic ballads which is alright by me.

It definitely has a swampy CCR sound on some tracks. On second listen, it's a pretty weird album. Not sure if it all comes together but there are definitely tons of shivery moments on it. [Edited 9/16/08 8:39am]
