Heart upset about Palin using "Barracuda"

Does this remind you of anyone? Like in 84 when Reagan used Born In the USA by the Boss? I guess this is what they were talking about, regarding the McCain campaign's "troublemaker" image. )But he said he emerged from his POW days a non-selfish man...)

That's not hot. neutral As appropriate as it may be, the GOP will lose votes if that song was chosen.

As soon as i saw the clip yesterday and heard the song i KNEW Ann and Nancy would be fucking pissed as they should be. This Palin chick is nowhere near being a "strong female" shes anti everything that HEART would stand for.

The article says that then Heart guitarist Roger Fisher who wrote the song with Ann and Nancy has no problems with the GOP using it as long as he gets royalties.

Same here. When I heard it, I knew the Wilson sisters would be pissed. I figured Ann would release the statement, though. Maybe it was better that Nancy did. Something tells me the media could not print what Ann has to say.

I highly doubt that royalties will be paid to anybody for using that or any other song that night.

U would think that it would have to be paid for, since it was airing on TV, I mean Baracuda has been used in a commercial, and they paid for that, if they used it in a TV show, the shoe would have to pay, i think someone should have to pay.

From the above Billboard article:

Copyright law may not be on the Wilsons' side as the song is licensed for public performance under a blanket fee paid by the venue to ASCAP, the firm that collects royalties on behalf of composers and copyright owners.

Just imagine if they had said something about Bush. Radio stations would
have threatened to ban their music. Whenever an entertainer criticizes
george bush, it is said they should stay out of politics and stick to their
craft which puzzles me since this is america and we have freedom of speech. wink

From Roger's website:

Rog here... I want it to be clear that, while I think using Barracuda was a feather in the cap for the McCain/Palin campaign, I STRONGLY ENDORSE OBAMA/BIDEN, and will donate a portion of royalties received from the Rebublican Convention Broadcast playing of Barracuda to the BARACK OBAMA campaign.
In reply to a reporter at Reuters regarding the usage of Barracuda at the Republican National Convention, Rog informed...

I'm thrilled with this whole thing. I think it's a win/win/win situation. 1, Heart wins because of the publicity and royalties; 2, McCain wins because of the ingenious placement of a kick-ass song; 3, Justice is served as Ann and Nance point out the indiscrete usage of a song written by three people who strongly support a direction with heart [...namely, Barack Obama].

Hilarious. I would think they would check out the artist’s affiliation or if they minded before they used their song in their campaign. shrug
